So the brown truck should be here in an hour or so with my new toy. I have a couple of silly questions that I hope someone here will entertain.

Regarding the preamps. Do they have enough gumption to drive ribbon mics? Also does anyone use outboard preamps with it?

Also it seems that I've read the unit can only use 1 aux send at a time with the build in fx. Does this hold true when using both sends as external? If it only will permit one at a time why have two?

Thanks

Welcome to the board. I have the DP-32 (new to me also). Not sure about the preamps with a ribbon mic but you can use 2 effects at once if you are using both 1 and 2 sends. I run everything through a console first, I have the 8 sub groups patched to the 8 inputs on the Tascam. let me know what you find out. Thanks:guitar:

another trick, if you want say delay on a vocal using the internal dynamic effects, then record the track as you normally would. then say you want to add reverb to the snare, use effect send 2 to an outboard effects unit, patch the returns back to 2 channels on the tascam, play the track back with the reverb added to the snare track and record only the effects return channels. you can do this as many times as you have open tracks for the returns, you can always bounce them if you dont need to change them

Thanks Atkron,
So I guess using outboard pre's work fine. How do you set the level off the DP? Are you using 1/4" out to the DP or XLRs?

I use a 1/4 to XLR cable. the sub outs on my console are 1/4 unbalanced. I set the level and do a basic EQ on the console then set the level on the DP. Thanks

cool, let me know if you find out any good tricks, still learning the new stuff.:D

Thanks for all the replies. Have you tried going 1/4-1/4? Wouldn't it be less colored be internal pre's that way?

don't think it would matter much, I already had the cables which is the main reason I am using them. 1/4 to 1/4 should work fine

Why? Regardless of the connector the signal goes through the preamp. I don't find that the preamps color the sound (that I notice). I apply gain in the preamp and compressor, and just enough gain on the input to give me a -12db (ish) peak on the signal.
