There should be no W7 interference with a viable ASIO driver. I do not see how that would even be possible. Windows has no control once a audio driver is selected as default.


In the case here, as long as the OP has selected his hand written 'Fast Track' and it's written ASIO driver as both the ASIO device in his DAW, as well as the default audio device in Windows, there will be no conflict with input levels via Windows. There will not be any options. Just sayin....

Well how about these apples then?!!

I just swapped a faulty s/h Novation Nio for a s/h Scarlet 8i6. Now it setup as Scarlet ASIO in Samplitude Silver just fine, demo played out, mics worked. Later on I was looking at Tal W. Toobs and found I had no sound in my cans. The keyboard mute was the problem. How's that then?

Yes, there is a ghost and its name is Win 7!
The OS sets levels way too high by default. Yes, check your hardware but I bet this is the problem...Go,,

Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Manage Audio Devices>Recording>Line In (be fast t pro) click on that>Levels and set from 100% to about 5% or less.

Note, a very handy and versatile AI is the Fast track pro, don't ever sell it!

My LINE IN was set to 100% and I just set it to 5%. Never knew anything about this, but then again, never really experienced any problems. Also the LINE OUT was set to 67%. What is the optimal percentage on that one? I've got a Focusrite Scarlett 18i6.

I have never had an issue with OUTput levels. If there seems to be enough I would leave it at 67% (odd value tho'but!). In XP I used to just set all computer audio levels to max but then I believe in using an analogue, external pot for final monitor control.

Ok guys while trying unplugging the mic, got a mild electric shock at the bottom. M gonna do the grounding/earthing of my electrical circuit today. Lets see what it does to the ghost.

Ok. This could be "staticcy" shock that you sometimes get with quite properly non-earthed Class 2 insulation equipment or it could be something more serious.

Pleas give a breakdown of all the kit, mod #s and makes and a diagram of how it is wired up.

Fixed the earthing/grounding issue. My NT1A is now shockproof. BUT NO LUCK! the ghost is still there! Moment i assign the track for record, the indicator shows high level of input from the mic. Lot of windy sound come from the monitors. When i make any sound, level doesn't fluctuate in response. Its not picking up any sound!

Where is that input coming from? I hv checked everything you people asked me to check. Hope there is some solution to this...
