Is this Midi Setup Possible?

So I am a recording newbie, I am also very unsure here. So I recently got A Kawai MAV-8 Midi Patchbay. My goal is to hook my Midi gear up so I am able to easily play sounds/data from multiple sources on my one keyboard. The keyboard I'm using is a Yamaha DX7 II-FD. I want to be able to play sounds from my computer DAW, my iPad (Line 6 Midi Mobilizer) and my Roland MS-1 Sampler on the DX7 without having to change Midi cords. I hope this is possible.

Any suggestions would be awesome!

Please Anyone?

I don't know about your IPad, but the MIDI should work fine, just remember, channel selection and if you want the sounds you will have to route them via analog still. Don't forget, Outs goes to ins and ins to outs. But for the true MIDI components, should not be a problem.

It's really hard to say as this would be a very awkward setup to be triggering sounds from all those sources at the same time. Best route is to try to get it where all the samples you need to trigger are on your computer if at all possible.

As far as if this is possible with the computer/ipad, some more experienced may know for sure. But I would start looking at this unit here and get it where you could connect via 5pin MIDI with each of your sources and keyboards. MOTU.com - MIDI Express XT Overview

Even so, still not 100% sure this could accomplish it, but it's definitely worth a look.

I have a device that allows me to hook my ipad/ipod into midi just like regular keyboards/devices.

It's not that I want to play the sounds from all the connected devices at the same time. It's just so I can switch around easily and play each device easily without switching wires each time.

Then it sounds to me like you need a MIDI interface with appropriate I/O count to manage your devices, assuming that this "device that allows me to hook my iPad into midi" involves the 5pin standard.

I think that is what this is for "Kawai MAV-8 Midi Patchbay"

Probably so. Why not just give it a shot then instead of asking us? Just see what works well and what appears compromised and go from there.

Oh, lol. Duplicate account I presume?

Could someone more qualified please step in and give suggestions?

The answer is yes this is possible. Just read the info on your patch bay.

100% positive this is possible. It says you can link the ins to the outs, I can only assume this means controlling multiple outputs with one input.

It also looks like you can unlink them as well if you don't want to control all of them at once.

Do you have the manual? I'm sure the manual will tell you how to hook this up correctly.
