Is this epic?

Oh...I just checked this out. I thought we were still waiting on the update. I scrolled ahead to 2:45 or so this time (sorry!). Yes, this version has much more impact. The build from around 3:20 to 3:37 is really good (do we need the rapid fire clapping in there though :p?). When his voice comes back in and the song resumes it now has the appropriate fullness. Good job. You are very patient with this stuff. I would've wrapped it up a while ago and just settled!

Cool dude sounds good. I like the addition of the snare on the 2-4 now! Think it adds a lot.

I listened to the old version too the other day but didn't have time to comment :D

Thanks for the comments, Heat. I'm glad it paid off. :)

The claps are necessary.
I like them, but more importantly Pete asked me to turn them up the other day. :p

Thanks for listening Guitaristic.

I love the song and really like your acoustic guitar sound. I think I heard a banjo part back in the mix washed in a decent amount of reverb and would have liked to hear that a little clearer. Someone else said something about the drums, the snare in particular which I agree could be tweaked. All in all excellent work though. Great lyrics as well IMHO.

It sounds a lot better to me circa 3:00, really nice job on incorporating all the advice. It's been a bit of a learning curve for me and all. I agree with Heat, you've got a lot of patience, but it's definitely paid off. It's an epic punch in the guts for me now. Seriously though, really awesome tune. :0

Good recording S, really enjoyed following along with its evolution.
HR is a great place to learn.

Lovin' it! The bit you advised skipping is great - simple and well executed ...sets up the rest really well.

At first listen I thought the post 3.00 'bit' was almost too dense there was so much in there. But a second listen and I really like the way everything sits in the field - lots to attract the ear and it all makes sense.

Didn't hear the first version, but this is a great track.

But, hey, I'm a noob(ish), so what do I know!

I think it's a good song. But I think the execution is lacking. It sounds to me like when I write a song to a click track on the computer and layer it with instruments. This usually ends up sounding flat and boring. I think what it needs is to be learned as a band and just performed live, then start layering. I think this would help bring out some of the emotion that is lacking in this mix.

There is no band, but thanks for the suggestions and for listening.

Thanksk very much Fritz, Sam and Doug. Sorry, I didn't see this thread jump up again.
