Hi Steve, thank you
I take it as a congratulation
Just to make you know, I posted here my mix two weeks ago (see on page 53)

I listened to you mix, it has a good balance, it's a good job
You took some courageous decisions on the arrangement like the saturated vocal on the first verse and the stripped sound on the breakdown, but are more artistic vision than mixing issues

Yes, that would be correct. :thumbs up: I saw another post referring to yours, which is when/why I had a listen. I've found it difficult (if not impossible) to keep up with all the mixes being posted here, so I have a tendency to pick out only those that for whatever reason catch my interest. And yours certainly did.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I did make a few creative decisions as I was getting started when I heard some of the earlier mixes. They were very clean and balanced, and I didn't think I'd be able to do any better in that department. Hence the decision to a slightly different route... But yours and Rajk's mixes did give me some thoughts about how I could have made slight changes to my mix even as it was, but those are things I'll store in the memory banks for future use: this one is done in my book. :)

Thank you all for your comments and feedback.
I want to say that majority of mixes are solid, we all done good job, it`s only a matter of taste.
There are no rules.

Everything I say is my subjective opinion, but I want to give you guys feedback:

@davidpend
I like drums, tight kick, snare is very fat and massive, toms are little boomy, and guitar needs a bit of room, look like a little bit dry

@Kal69
You need bigger drums, fatter bass and guitar, and generally more space, but solid mix and good balanced

@SteveC7
Bit much distortion on vocals, but i like it, very good idea, something like guitar amp, on quieter sections there is less distortion, and vice versa?

@AndyGallas
Nice rich mix, toms are bit loud on last section, bass bit muddy around 200Hz, snare is very clear

@fHumble fHingaz
I like your mix a lot, kick could be more natural, but it`s only taste.

Thanks guys for listening (and reading :D), if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Good luck to all of us

Yes, you got it - more distortion on quiter sections and cleaner during the louder passages. Sort of like reverse psychology. :D

I did have a question on your mix... what did you use on the guitar, aside from EQ?

Rajk:
Very nice mix. But there are far too many comments on the submission........:rolleyes:

The kick is a little pronounced and the guitar a little too heavily processed for my tastes, but hey, very nice work!

Yup....this was the offical contest forum/thread....but the links may have been posted on other forums/websites.....

I see. I was just wondering if there was a 200 page thread full of entries at other sites.

Don't worry Greg, on June 21st, everybody or so will leave the ship.. Hold on..

Actually maybe a few days later, the time for people to congrat the winners; and to criticize Fab's mix if it is put online..

Hi! Can anyone say smth about my mix? I know exactly - I've missed toms)
thnx!

Hi Tyler, mine is done with H-Mixbus also, routed from StudioOne.
I'm agree with previous comments about drums

This is a nice-sounding mix, bro. Interesting guitar panning, too. Everything is thick. Harrison Mixbus is an awesome concept. Are you considering using it more often?

Ok, so I'm a bit late ...Thanks for listening! I'm hearing some really good mixes on here and I'm sure I could learn something.
Hi! THe 1-st thing - Liza singing slightly on the left. Why?) And for my taste, too much vocal in the mix. I like the guitar sound! But it loud as well. Need more bass and kick drum - check out mine)

So I keep checking for a download of my mix for judging and alas, nothing. Its already the 13th. Is anyone else awaiting a download?

Thanks Cla, yes I love Harrison Mixbus; I will use it often, but not on everything
My main DAW is StudioOne V2, that's great for every kind of job: tracking, composing, editing, remixing, mixing etc.
I bought HM a couple of month ago, so not too much experience on that, but I can say that it works very well on acoustic or real instruments music and live like this one, it has a smooth sound as I like and it has a different sound separation mostly in the bass freq area, I love channels with eq, compression and busses sends on board (I had my first steps on a Soundcraft 48ch analog console, so this interface is quite familiar to me)
I use just the mixer section, absolutely not the edit window
I alway use S1 to import stems, to editing as split, double tracks, Melodyne jobs when required, I always use S1 mixer to organize tracks (is so flexible), I insert plugins needed to prepare the tracks with surgical eq, phase corrections, gate or expander or even special fx
Only when every single tracks is cleaned and sounds without issues, I put all single faders on 0dB and I route every channels or bus to HM
So I use the Hmixbus EQ&comp just to make the mix, to glue and find the right balance&pan
I have two monitors, the laptop one for S1, the external for HM mixer, I work with the two daws at the same time
I love this routing capabilitiy (thanks to JackRouting and Patchage)

With samples based mix I didn't find a real vantage so I remain just on S1

I listened to yours, a well done creative mix, I love the guitar phaser on 2.48, a nice spot color you could use a little more
