Greetings!
I run a small garage rock cassette label. I'm trying to be as self sufficient as possible and I'd like to master the albums myself. I've been doing analog recordings for years and I have experience with protools. Most of the albums that bands send me have fluctuating volumes. Could someone point me in the direction of a prefered software and some basic theory of mastering for cassette? I look to use the plugin t-racks as my eq. Any help would be appreciated!

You've been here since 2007, and this is your first post?

Cassette? Really? Where, exactly, do people market such releases?

Just do the same thing you do for 8-track cartridge.

I've got a plastic bin of used ones in my basement just waiting for a good home ...

What sort of tape are you mastering to?
What sort of playback are you mastering for?
Apart from consistent levels what do you intend to do in the process?
I haven't done it since the mid 80's (getting 4 song tapes done for sale at gigs) though so I'd probably be of now use to you.

Do you have a site for your label? I'd like to check it out, as I'm very fond of cassettes! :)

i hear old school nikko tape decks are very good. they are kinda expensive. i wonder if these would make great for mastering?

Another superb, rarely mentioned deck was the Sony TC177. This was a top loader and none the worse for that! It had dual loop capstans and three heads.

I had the use of one for a couple of days but could never afford it!

I really like using tape I know it's old fashioned but I love the analogue warmth.

Also my early 90s JVC TD-V711 which I listen to my old demos till this day and they sound as fresh as they did then!! When I bought it I still remember researching Nacimchis and comparing the 2 decks and for the price difference I went with the JVC and still cut do master mixes on it till thiss day and age !!!
