My eldest daughter is moving out in a couple of days. I'm glad she's getting out there and I'm also a bit sad. But life goes on.

Put this mix together real quick tonight...could be a bit lumpy. Anything I should do to make it better?

Dude...this is pretty fucking awesome. I love the trashy drums and wierdo sounds. That trembley bit at 1:36 is awesome and a perfect choice. I'm not detecting any noticeable bass guitar but I'm not missing it either. Really cool as-is. The ending is kind of empty like you ran out of ideas, but I like that the way it is too. Very cool. Well done.

You're often a bit early, in front of the drums. It could groove a bit beter if you'd play a bit laidback.
You need some bass

This song seems really angry for expressing the melancholy of seeing your kids grow up and move out!

That being said, I do like the trashy, garagey tones.

I'm gonna disagree with Gerg and say that some bass would be good for it, especially when the main guitar gets quieter (e.g. the tremolo bits)

Greg - wow thanks a lot man. Yeah not sure how the bass went mia. Serves me right for not listening in the car. The ending is a stick-on. After I'd finished putting the thing together I had this section left over that wouldn't fit anywhere, so I thought well there's the outro. I might leave it on, might ditch it. VHS - that's funny that it sounds angry. To me it is a melancholy tune, wrapped in a trashy overcoat. Maybe there's a new genre - Melancholy Trash. Thanks for the listen Steve

Love the guitar tones on this. I'm glad I caught this before it slipped off to page 2, which pretty much equates to disappearing here.

I don't have much to add. This has all the elements I love about your stuff. The beats are even more chaotic in some ways, and that's saying something. I was struck, like someone else, by the contrast between the back story and the seemingly aggressive, almost angry feel of the piece.

heat - I was going for a jumpy jerky drum kind of drum feel and it's got that but at the expense of some groove. Anyway it's what it is. Appreciate the rescue from the precipice of page 2 oblivion!

Hey, this is really good. Great lowfi drum sound, and the predictably big crunchy guitars do unpredictable things - those simple figures that you keep changing up really work well. I'm glad there wasn't a vocal on this one, and I don't say that very often - I think you've come up with something kinda new with this one. (Or maybe I should get out more. ) The only nit I've got is that high ringing harmonic that repeats - I don't know if you can get rid of it, or even whether you want to get rid of it, but I'd enjoy the piece better if it weren't there. Good work. More!

This is very cool man. Dig the tremolo guitar when it comes in towards the middle. I did want to hear some crashes on the drums but thats just me critiquing the song, not the mix. I really like the crunch to the guitar tone. Only thing I would say (aside from throwing some bass under all this) is the snare could use a bit more 10k, but thats just me, I enjoy that snap. Still, overall sounds awesome. I'm a fan.

These drums are great, absolutely love that sound - especially with the freaky organ, there's an endearing chaos there. I'd really like to hear some thick warm bass backing up the riffs if you go back and revisit.

I agree that you can hear the basement in this...it's pretty cool, don't know if you did that with reverb or if it's just the room sound...it does bring Big Black to mind minus the drum machine, or maybe a looser Gang of Four? That ringing harmonic thing is a result of my crappy technique. I didn't even notice it until you mentioned it. Thanks for pointing that out, and the cool comments

Couple of people have mentioned the lacking bass, I usually struggle to find that balance. So yeah, good call, need to look at that again. BTW no organs on this one. Cheers man.

Yep that's my dusty old Pearl kit. I did the hard parallel compression thing with the drums, and blended them in. That's what's bringing the room out. Glad you like it man, thanks

Crunchy & fun; I'd have to listen a couple of times more to latch onto the melancholia.
If the bass is lost under there it'll just be a case of EQing to get it up (my usual trick is -5db @100, +5 @ 200 & +6 @ 3k all with a narrow Q).

Thanks for the suggestion Ray. I really should know this stuff by now, been doing it long enough. Made some tweaks in those areas you mentioned and I think the bass pokes out better now with a bit more presence down below. Cheers dude
