I made a pop screen with a hanger and an old nylon stocking (it was getting itchy).

But what I did was cut the foot off the stocking and place it over the frame I made, like a sock. Thing is, this gives me 2 layers of nylon. Is this "done" or not recommended? I can't remember if a standard pop screen has one layer or two.

That's the same thing I did for my screen. It seemed to work pretty well. Only one test run so far though.
I feel like a lot of actual pop screens are pretty thick anyway, sometimes even made out of metal. I'd figure as long as the sound is getting through there shouldn't be an issue.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking, and good point about metal pop screens. I'll know if it's affecting the sound in a negative way as soon as I record something.

Thnax Sixer.

Same thing here. Old stocking, two layers, smells like wine.

I have premade screens with both 1 layer and 2 layers. I prfer the 2 layer.

Plus i made my own 2 layer screen with an embroidery ring and some wire.

Mine smells like ass. Maybe I should have used the other end of the stockings.

Then it would smell like toe jam or tinea. Take your pick.

Personally, I'd spring for a new pair of stockings...

Guess my old woolen socks have been the wrong execution then.

My one has three layers. Even with close vocals, it's never an issue. The first one I made had two. For the more recent one, I used garden wire instead of a coat hanger. Much more pliable.

Yeah, the coat hanger was a bit of a pain. With the twisted up hanger and the crotch of a pair of nylons, it looks like an abortion gone horribly wrong.

I will put a picture of my home made pop screen when I can be bothered, it is the worst bit of DIYing ever! and I had to put it up in a rush when a singer was coming to record for my song, so I stuck it to a mic stand with sellotape! looks awful and scrappy but it does its job :)
