Tascam DM 4800 - timecode freezes on meterbridge

Is there anyone who can help me? I got the Tascam DM4800 (basically same as the DM3200) and just got the DMs transport buttons to work, controlling Nuendo playback. Set up two Mackie controllers in Nuendo as described in the manual. So far everything is working. BUT my problem is that, on the meterbridge (MU-1000) the timecode, and problaby the automation module itself, "freezes" occationally during playback. I can't find out what to do. If I disable timecode to be sent to the meterbridge, the playback works perfectly, but I need the timecode for recording automation on the DM4800. Would be really greatful for some help here...thanks.
 
I too have a somewhat similar problem. But my DM3200 MU-1000, runs ok unless it's a looped section. Where it stumbles a bit until it catches up.
Pretty annoying, given the bandwidth provided for the MU-1000 from the USB.
What has Tascam said about this?

I sent an email to the support yesterday, waiting for a reply.
I´ll post it here if they have a solution...
 
I use the 4800 with Sonar.
I believe you should have 3 Mackie controllers set up for 24 track control ports 5, 6 and 7.
Port 3 should go for Timecode.
The other ports should not be used or assigned.

Ok, I have the two Mackie controllers set up for 24 tracks, ports 5 and 6 but not 7. Where do you use port 7? In the project synchronisation options I have the timecode sent to port 3. The timecode is running and the machinecontrol works, but it occationally freezes during playback for some second (both in Nuendo and on the DM 4800). On the meterbridge the "Lock" also lits occationally. When I disable the timecode to be sent to the DM4800, just using the machinecontrol, the playback works fine, but then I can't use the automation.
Very frustrating...
 
To my knowledge, each port will only do 8 tracks.
Port 5 should be assigned 1-8, port 6, 9-16 and port 7, 17-24

No news from Tascam?
I have found them to be pathetic for technical/troubleshooting.
I have given up on my previous questions to them.
Love the machine, would love their input
 
I bet we will all have to figure this out ourselves.
I used to use Nuendo and had the exact problem as the original poster.
I have switch to Sonar X1 and it does something similar.
Just every now and then numbers will "stutter" and then continue on.
In Sonar when I push stop, most of the time the numbers continue to run for a second or two.
I'm clueless as to what to even try anymore. Mine is the 3200 BTW.

Ok, I was trying to get in contact with Tascam by phone but couldn't get through. I'll try again soon. Kind of expensive as I'm calling from Sweden...
Anyway, I guess you're using the USB midi at port 3 for timecode to be sent to the Tascam 3200? Have you tried any other way to send timecode?
There must be a lot of people out there who haven't got this problem, I really miss that old Tascam forum that closed some years ago. Is there any other forum that has many Tascam users?
 
Port 3 is the only way I could get timecode to show at all. I would love to know if there is another port to try. I mean I guess I could try it, but from what I remember when I was getting help from the Tascam forums was that port 3 was the way to go. I found this a couple days ago: Tascam Forums - Audiofanzine
Don't know if there is much there to help us or not.

In the release notes of the firmware updates I found this in the
• The mixer is now better able to lock to incoming MTC Timecode that has Jitter.
This comes from the release notes for firmware 1.60.
I think my problem is that the DM4800 doesn´t lock good enough to Nuendo. But what is disturbing the signal??
What operating system did you use on your computer?
 
Win 7 32 bit. I don't remember what firmware I am at.
I guess I better check that, too.
Like you, I just wonder what in the world would cause a tiny pause from time to time.
Why will it not stay locked?
I don't know. The hunt continues.
 
This has been a couple of months now, but I have the time code freeze thing fixed on my DM3200. Just fixed it today.
I went to a certain forum and they had a link for optimizing Win 7 and other OS's for sound.
I didn't know much about Win7, but I could tweak the hound out of XP.
One of the tips had to do with the USB ports. Since I made a few tweaks including the tweaks for the Firewire port. I have the time code locked and no clicks and pops when I run the sample rate way down now.

This optimization is for AVID--ProTools, so you will need to pick and choose. But, it made an improvement in my system.

I hope this can get your time code issue fixed.

Did you solve the problem, it happens to me too, when I start the automation with ON, The timecode freezes and on the Meterbridge is says Lock!
I have Tascam DM-4800 and Cubase 7.
