Hi All,

I have a DP-02 eight track and I have noticed that the two level knobs aren't as solid to the feel as the EQ knobs. In other words, they are springy if pushed sideways. Is this normal? Should they be rock solid?

I also have a Tascam 744 and the trim knobs are similar but that's an older machine.

Let me know before I ring the repair guy!

Thanks! :)

Yep , just jiggled mine and they feel "springy" also but no problems if you use 2 fingers to turn em :)

Thanks for that!

Are they considerably more springy than the EQ knobs?

sure and yes they are but Im sure thats normal on this unit, but like I said, always use 2 fingers to turn knobs ;).......I love my DP-02 and you !?!?

It's certainly impressive in terms of build quality but I have a very bad buzzing coming in when I try to record any guitar. I can record the drum track from my laptop with no issues which is strange. I can also record on my old Tascam 744 with no noise issues either. I get a very strange tingling from the metal parts of the recorder which I have had from other pieces of aluminium cased equipment over the years and I think that it's a grounding issue.

I am going to post on the forum asking the questions.

Ive never had the buzzing problem but yeah ,it sounds like a ground problem which may could be remedied just by flipping the ground plug??

What is flipping the ground plug? Would reversing the cable at the power supply be the same?

Mine has a 2 prong plug that goes in the wall does yours? No ground builty into the plug that is so,either take a 2 to 1 ground plug adapter and try are try the ground screw on back of the unit and ground it to something in your settup.Im not an expert at this but i did the simple ground adapter trick on my Korg Trinity keyboard(had a 60 HZ hum) and went from a 3 prong to 2 and remedied the problem :)

Two things.1.Depending upon how old the amp is-some times one of the A/C lines can be tied to the chassis.Touching your strings and getting a shock is a perfect example of that-extremey dangerous. there was a famous case,(I'll bet there are more), of a guitar player being electrocuted on stage when he was holding his strings and grabbed the microphone.2. Using a "ground buster" defeats the protection of having that ground.Read up and you will find that NO ONE recommends that for safety reasons.Find that ground loop.I bet your guitar is a Strat.

My experience and opinion based on the DP02cf is....

there's a noticeable buzz interference that's being emitted by the DP02's power module, being 2 prong elec and apparently not shielded well,... that it becomes noticeable to some degree on high input sources, such as high gain guitar.

I was getting buzz on high gain mics and guitars when I used a setup with a 246 serving as front end mixer to the DP02cf recorder. Hum was noticeable on the 246 side's monitors when the DP02 was plugged in. Hum was noticeable on the DP02cf side in standalone mode too, to a lesser degree, based on I think the DP02's pre's do not have very high gain on the inputs, especially in contrast to other mixers.

However, most of this buzz was lost beyond the noise floor of the DP02 and only became more noticeable on playback when the tracks were cumulative. The buzz issue was a very minor dissappointment for me in this product. Not a deal breaker. However, the pre's basically suck and beg the issue of a front end mixer, another small disappointment. A 2-component solution is no longer a Portastudio! You heard it here, first.

I've thought of making a faraday cage type thing out of a project box, eclosing the DP02 power module and grounding the box directly to the ground jack on the wall outlet. Was only an idea at this stage.

My 2c
:spank::eek:;)
