Ancient Machines - VHS borrows audio to cover a song that heavily borrows Lovecraft

I hate being the first to bump my own threads, but does anyone have any feedback on this, please?

If you want to skip the narrated intro, the actual song comes in at 0:52

Hey VHS. Just gave this a listen and I like the tune. The vocals sound pretty good. Drums and additional percussion are kind of chaotic and have almost a recorded-in-a-garage kind of boxiness to them reminiscent of some of your earlier recordings, but I still like the sound. I guess mix-wise the drums and vocals seemed good in terms of level, but I thought the rest of it (bass, guitars/synths, etc.) could come up some in relation maybe.

This might be one of those tunes that takes a few listens to get into. I say that because whenever I go to your page I click the Play button expecting to hear whatever song you're asking for feedback on, and I get Teenage Girlfriend which I've grown to quite like now that I've heard it a few times

Yeah, the page is confusing - I started with TGF & then scrolled down to discover the download links. Perhaps you could put a hint at the top of the page for Gumbies like me.
The song - mp3 version - sounds like a post nintendopocalypse version of the Diamond Dogs intro...
I couldn't imagine this song in any other version - the components fit it perfectly. Calculators and pocket protectors against the lesser evil as reimagined on betacam for an undercounterterrorist organisation.
Having spent some time reading Lovecraft I'm glad it isn't too close to his eldritch visions of tenacled terrors behind the ever so slightly ajar door. And glad that it isn't as wordy either!
Q. Is that door ajar?
A. No, it's a Lovecraft plot device!
P.S.
Rats in the Wall has a cool gnawing riff.

Ha ha! Oh man. That's a good point. I should probably fix that!

Heat, OK. I'll try to bump up the instrumentation in the next mix.

Rayc. Thanks. And another bump for fixing the page design!

*edit* New mix is up. Same link as before (don't forget to scroll down!) Thanks for the feedback!

Interesting... I'm listening on some in ears. I would have mixed the vocals a bit differently, but that is just taste. I'm an old fart, so ymmv. :)

New mix gud. Flaming Lips without mind altering substances.

Thanks Steve and Ray.

I can't really vouch for my own ear for mixing vocals, so what specifically would you have done differently, Steve? It's always good to know different techniques.

I think this is actually the best mix you've done yet - that I've heard anyway. The playing is reasonably tight, and there's space in the mix. Everything is clear and audible. Lots of weirdo stuff going on and I can hear it all. Nicely done. :)

I like the new mix a lot (I listened to mix 2). Better overall balance I think. Well done.

+1 for simplifying the player options on your site. I'm used to it now, but I remember in the past having trouble finding stuff, getting discouraged and moving on.

Thanks Heat!

OK. Logging into the ticket tracking system right now to get that page fixed.
