Best price I've found locally is $179 Australian including tax. That's about $188 US.

If I'm going to spend that much on a mic, I want something better than an SM57!

However, on the plus side, the rather nice Traminer-Riesling I'm going to be drinking tonight costs me the equivalent of about $2 a bottle. Enough of that and an SM57 sounds a lot better. Hell, even a C1000S is almost tolerable after a few glasses. That's still "almost" though.

Now let's say that you purchased a few microphones from me in the ads section here at HR ..... will you have to pay extra than the sales price (& postage) upon their arrival to you?

Legal mafia!

Goods imported to Australia with a declared value of under $1000, are not subject to duty. I've actually bought mics in the USA before (for example all my Audix mics I've bought from Rat Sound in Los Angeles) and they've come through in he post okay.

Over $1000 and duty is payable on a variable scale depending what they are.

Everyone knows that you can always, without trying, get 15% off recommended retail. So what a lot of businesses now do, to save themselves all the bargaining, is have the special "marked down" price as per that ad I posted before...

It satisfies people who don't know better and makes them think they've got a good deal.

I'll have to want something a lot to buy outside of annual sale prices these days... not that I buy much gear any more... or it has to be under a level-of-pain threshhold where I really don't care that much...

We just need to start an underground network of moving microphones! To all of the countries World wide.

Microphones for industry!

So I really thought that this would take off.

See - you can't get guys in here without girls and free beer.

We should do a group buy of used SM57s for the lads in Oz.

Free beer you say? Group somethin or other with 57 what?

I'm so in!

See! This thread is getting better than I could have ever of hoped or dreamed about.

57 bottles of beer on the wall,
57 bottles of beer!

Take one down and pass it around...

56 bottles of beer on the wall,
56 bottles of beer!

...

Only in America is the SM57 under $100. For the rest of us it's an overpriced piece of crap mainly useful for propping the studio door open.

Just because it is under $100 bucks here doesn't mean it isn't an overpriced piece of crap.

CMunch, you're a faggot!
CMunch

No, you are.

Is that better? (Best I can do.)

Ah the memories.
