great price on SM57's and 58's

Or maybe you should set up all 27 on a drum set and see what fun you can have trying to mix that ;)
 
Just have several live set ups and some in the studio. ;)

I was going to get the 58, but now I'm not as shure (teehee)...

I mainly wanted to try out a dynamic microphone for recording vocals, and an SM58 is what I, like a lot of people, use live (unfortunately, it's not my equipment, and I can't borrow one to try it).

I suppose I could just buy one of each...

More~ with 27, I figure you would know the answer:
I have read many differing comments that the 58 needs adequate (around 60dB) gain from the pre-, and I have not found any documentation to support this information.

What pre(s) do you use for your 57s, and how much gain do 57s require? (I assume the same as a 58)
Do you (or others) know where I can find this information documented?

It's always possible, but something tells me Best Buy wouldn't sell fake equipment. They more than likely were just able to purchase the mics in such bulk that they can offer that price and still make money on it.

Gosh ..... the majority of preamps that I use with the 57s are within the consoles them selves (live use) Midas, Allen Heath and digital Yamaha consoles.

In the studio I have many different boutique preamps for various LDC, SDC and tube microphones. The 57s will see the preamps of my studio console which happens to be a Yamaha PM1800.

I have found that the Shure SMs sound great with most preamps including but not limited to Behringer Mackie and similar low end consoles.

Some/most retailers wouldn't know that they are pushing counterfeit microphones and probably wouldn't know the difference.

Case in point -- Guitar Center (:cursing: who you would think know there product :cursing:) were selling Counterfeit Oktava microphones until it was brought to their attention. :rolleyes:

Yup :p Over all though I think there are only 5 in the studio. The rest are always on the road at different venues different systems.
 
If I buy the sm58 through that best buy link, do i still need to buy that xlr cable to connect it to my 2i2 or is that it?
 
If you don't already have an XLR cable you will need one for a 58.

Actually I only have 2 SM57's but I have 5 x SM58's, you can use SM58's on toms no problem.

I only use SM57's on snare, the other mics are 421's, or AT3525's, however before I was lucky enough to have these I used to use AKG D310's, D320's and D330's on toms, you can find these all around the place second hand and they are a lost treasure, I still use them when Neil Peart (wannabes :facepalm:) turns up and I am short of mics.

fair enough, I just think Best Buy would have the capacity more so than Guitar Center to be able to purchase and sell those mics $20 cheaper than your standard price.

Maybe somebodies best buy store will have them for sale in store and could give them a once over. Or atleast get some info to see where they were getting them.


After a look on their website, they're selling A LOT more than just sure mics, blues, sennhesiers, presonus boards, all sorts of stuff.
