Last count I made was that I have 27 SM57s.

Go for another 57 KK.
For me a 57 is extraordinarily more universally usable than a 58.
Recording vocals! You sir would want a SM7b

Of course I would want an SM7b! Do you have one you'll sell me for $75?

Musiciansfriend won't price match.
Unfortunately, Best Buy is not listed as Shure authorized dealer (neither online nor physical store locations).
Not an authorized dealer? Maybe these mics are fakes!![]()

More~ with 27, I figure you would know the answer:
I have read many differing comments that the 58 needs adequate (around 60dB) gain from the pre-, and I have not found any documentation to support this information.
What pre(s) do you use for your 57s, and how much gain do 57s require? (I assume the same as a 58)
Do you (or others) know where I can find this information documented?
Thanks in advance.

It's always possible, but something tells me Best Buy wouldn't sell fake equipment. They more than likely were just able to purchase the mics in such bulk that they can offer that price and still make money on it.

This will come in handy if Neil Peart ever strolls into your studio![]()

Some/most retailers wouldn't know that they are pushing counterfeit microphones and probably wouldn't know the difference.
Case in point -- Guitar Centercursing: who you would think know there product
) were selling Counterfeit Oktava microphones until it was brought to their attention.
