I see deaf people
realising you cant sing

just spent the entire day trying to record two verses but had to scrap the lot...Im sure I used to be able to hold a tune (this is not the first bloody time)

soooo its a dub version instead lol...it may be a little dull but if its a keeper i'll edit it or introduce another dimension, unless someone wants to try some reggae vocals mon :)

been 6 months since i did anything so maybe a little rusty mixing...any comments and listens appreciated

EDIT AGAIN: darkened the whole mix as per Jans suggestion and just adjust a few bits that were sticking out...left the vocals in for the new mix.

Production-wise I think it is excellent. Some amazing sounds in there coming at me from all different directions.

The change up at around 1:30 really was pretty incredible. Love that sound.

At least you knew enough to scrap the vocals if they weren't happenin'. That can be a tough thing to do, especially if you invested a lot of time. It'll come back to you...

Is that the putrid, surf, tele-jazzo master on this? It sounds perfect. Just the right delay.

Muscially maybe not the most interesting of yours, but pretty amazing from a technical standpoint and overall a very fun listen (I'm on like number 3 or 4 so far). I was very glad to see you post something.

Hey Pete thanks for listening and the kind words mate..yeah thats the putrid axe and the new prophet in there ;)

Yes it is a bit dull, it was better, or wouldve been, with my deranged megaphone vocals over it but alas what I was hearing in my head wasnt being translated through the mic :D

its been an albatross as its quite a big project for me so Im glad just to get it out of the way...methinks proper reggae's just a bridge to far for this homeslice lol

Im glad the productions OK...its funny how rusty you get, this took ages to mix compared to before I went away

Some great sounds, like the flute sample. Psycedelic Reggae. When you say prophet, do you mean as in sequential circuits.

How about letting us hear the version with vocals?

thanks for listening mate..I have to admit without vocals its a bit boring...quite a bit

but with the vocals i was mixing it yesterday and everytime they came in Id wince...jesus Im making myself wince now lol

still glad you too havent mentioned the mix, I was hoping id go forward with a break from music but it was a struggle to mix so many tracks as a first project...the flutes off some hip hop sample pack...sounds pretty good considering

ill maybe mix them down for a laugh...please note Im a one take kinda guy...its all i can do when i can hear my neighbours and they can hear me :o

Very cool. I know I've said it before, but your dub/reggae-ish stuff reminds me of the weird Clash era stuff, and I dig it. My only mix critique is the weird noise stuff that starts popping in around 3:12. It's too out front. I like the sounds, they're just too loud. Guitar sounds good. Mix is spacious and balanced. Bottom end is tight. Very good. :)

thanks greg, Ive actually just brought those sounds down a little...Ill stick the mix up now but it prolly needs a few more tweaks

glad the mix is sounding OK apart from that :)

I think the vocals are great. Not sure why you weren't happy with them? The sound you got is actually quite similar to the quality of the vocal sample you already had in there. I like it better this way.

How the hell do you get banned from Jenni's Place? That is hardcore. You're my hero.

seriously? i cant bring myself to listen to them again lol

man i trust your opinion in here but i think you need to have a lie down :D

I went rogue in prime time...the walls are closing in on me ;)

Seriously.

God...but the movie thread? Soon it will be nothing but Admin's chatting with each other. Or one Admin chatting with themselves.

I thought the Mortal Combat screenshot was killer.

Keith,

I love it, great stuff, the dubstep is as good as anything I've heard. The mix sounds right on here. Sounds are all present and clear. You have a very good ear for making changes that really work, the changes flow very well.

Just curious does the song have lyrics?

yeah something about nightmares or something....it was only about 8 lines so no great loss to my annual lyric output :D

thanks for listening mate....im surprised folks even like it...i suppose Id bored myself shitless waiting to finish it (root canal work last week...eek), again glad the mix is working

brilliant it can go out to my publishers!

lol @ publishers :)

thanks dude...i love the new guitar and i went by your suggestions, sounds just about right, just what i wanted :)

This is really cool kc - the vocals work well, so I'm struggling to see why they make you wince. I do feel your pain though - nearly got a new one finished and the vocal has almost killed me, despite it only covering like six notes, all in the same key and well within my range. Definitely keep em in.

The rest of the mix is great, great texture and some really nice elements throughout. The only thing that sounded incongruous to me were the double handclaps, which add a touch of cheese that isn't anywhere else in the tune. I dunno if you agree, but I'd be tempted to put a short delay on the handclap in the bars where you've got the double instead (maybe where the kick that follows the handclap in the other bars is?)

ill maybe mix them down for a laugh...please note Im a one take kinda guy...its all i can do when i can hear my neighbours and they can hear me :o

I was like this too, until I realised that my neighbours are in their 70s and (judging by the volume that their television comes through the wall) are deaf as posts.

thanks for listening and the critique Rob.....you know its funny i must have cheese in my head because I hear double handclaps in most of my tunes lol, seriously I do...I was about to add them to another tune but willl put a halt on it

I really dont hear what you guys like about the vocals, Id really like a vocal version but they sound whiney, flat, and a bit off beat...maybe Ill give it another few days and revisit the claps and the vocals...its not as if it takes me long to track them

Tom, Industrial Okie, has asked for a go at putting something on it so Ill see what he comes up with...I have a much more commercial sounding tune that needs a rap...i wonder how ill do on that  :D

Love it, dude. Love the pan flute cameo, and the dub-step was great. Kept me interested the whole time. Even sounded good listening on my crappy earbuds at work. Kudos, man. Glad to hear you're writing / recording again. It's been too long.

Great job, and as always, thanks for sharing!
