Hi all,

This is my first post on Home Recording.

I have been searching, for a while, for online courses that can give me a nice overview, over all the techniques that are used in mixing and mastering tracks/songs (effects, EQ, etc...). I know some of the basics but I would like to know more.

In this case I would prefer video lessons and exercises.

I am using Logic Pro 9.

There are many sites that give these courses.. so it's a little bit hard to choose.

Do you have any suggestion? (low budget!) :)

Thank you for your help.

DIY and look on youtube or ask here when you're very stuck.

That is honestly my suggestion, and it's free :)

welcome to the forum. Youtube is full of videos on techniques. From micing, mixing, to mastering. Searching on this forum is useful too. way back when I didnt know how to approach toms in a mix I did a search here and got lots of useful info. Or just ask your question, someone will have an answer.

Howdy Frank.

Just hang here for a while and soon you'll be giving classes!

thank you

I see your point. There's just so much information! I will have to start somewhere:)

Thanks for your advice guys.

You are never going to learn this all in a day, month, year, or decade. You ask even the oldest of engineers and they will still say there are learning new things, techniques, etc. If they say they are not, they are either lying, or to arrogant to admit it. One thing I will recommend is to get books. Actual textbooks. You can watch all the joe shmoes on youtube (and often all the help is good, to an extent) but I would read textbooks on not "what to do" but "what this stuff is or does". Learn exactly how sound travels, how our ears perceive it, how EQing a certain frequency not only effect that frequency, but all the overtones as well. Once you learn the basics, things like compression, eq, mixing and so forth will make ALOT more sense!

GOOD LUCK! and fear not to ask us all questions! (that's why there is a newbie section ;) )
