so i was deciding wether to post this in digital or analog forum but heres my issue. i am using a digi 001 and it has 2 preamps. i need more. like 8 more. i have a behringer preamp strip but i cant get the outputs to work. so im looking for a replacement. i need 8 preamps with 8 direct (xlr or 1/4) outputs. and if anyone has any better ways of doing this please tell me

Is your behringer strip an ada8000?

If so , it converts analog to digital or digital to analog as standard, so it wont do mic in to line out.

You can 'fool' it by connecting the digital out and in together to use as standalone preamps/converters IIRC.

Presonus digimax fs does what you want. 8 mic/line ins and 8 line outs.

It also has unnecessary digital in to line out though. Maybe look through their product range for a dummed down version?

FWIW, I don't think the front panel line ins on digi 001 will bypass the preamps. Might not matter to you, but worth pointing out.

ok then why the line outs on the back? i see the digital but i dont like using that. i like hard wired stuff.

Do you mean on the ada8000 (If that's what you've got?!?!)

Like i said, it either converts:

adat digital input to eight line outputs

or 8 analog inputs to adat digital output.

I've been really happy with my Presonus Digimax FS. It is powered by 17 or 18V bipolar rails for better headroom than the standard 15V rails and I just like how it sounds...has the straight ahead multichannel mic in to line out but also is an 8 x 8 ADAT interface up to 96kHz...has inserts on all 8 channels as well...two of the inputs double as instrument preamps and the other 6 double as line inputs if you want to mix and match instrument, mic, and line inputs, and it has a good "entry level" digital wordclock in it. I use it as the wrodclock master for the digital side of my studio...sounds better than my Yamaha 01X, and the pre's are my favorite sounding as well. I got it for like $250 in near new condition several years ago. The Firepod or FP-10 is very similar with some I/O feature differences and FireWire interface as opposed to lightpipe.

im lookin at the presonus d8. is that going to do what i need it to do?
