Trying to quit beer and cigs.

The only advice I can give you is do it one at a time. :)
If you are quitting both simultaneously...that would leave most people on edge.
I quit cigs 15 years ago after about 5 years of wanting to and 3 years of trying.

AFA the other stuff...it's not a big deal. It's all cool.

Sooooo.....
...howzabout those ceiling traps?

Lolz!

I forgot to follow up here - I posted these pics in the chronology thread - but seems like I should put a few here.

I ended up cutting with Garden Shears, it worked quite well actually! The one panel I photographed below I forgot to use 45 degree angle cuts in the Roxul - Later panels I did and the shears made excellent 45 degree angle cuts.

To build the mounting bracket I ripped a 1x3 at a 45 degree angle.

Basic frame goes together - notches for the ceiling trim

Attach bottom half of ripped 1x3 to wall (there is a name for this I can't recall it)

Check frame - make sure it lines up and mounts flush

Garden shears seem to work pretty well for cutting Roxul

3 Layers of stacked insulation, as planned (well pretty close)

Two ceiling panels mounted - as well as an exposed superchunk corner trap

I gotta ask....you mentioned that the reason you were doing it this way was 'cuz you said the typical 2'x4'x4" panels would not be ideal.

Dude...you got tons of ceiling height and room for 2'x4'x4" panels!!! :)

I'm sure my ceiling is lower than yours...and I'm planning to add some 2'x4'x4" panels...plus with a 2" space between them and the ceiling. Why did you think they were not good for your situation?

Well that was a fun little exchange to read! :D

Nice pics arcadeko!

Wow! Looks very cool! I'm jealous! Maybe I can get something like that when the kids are grown and gone, lol

Put your kids to work and build it! I think it's legal as long as you give them ice cream. :D

In those particular positions it would not work well - I wanted my guitars hanging there and the window would be covered. I do have 2x4x4" hanging elsewhere:

The vertical corner trap is a panel with a 90 degree angled frame so it snugs into the corner and hangs with just 2 drywall screws! Here is the corner trap frame:

I wish I had your ceiling height....but yeah, you can tell best what works and what doesn't.

I'm planning on working in a few more bass traps, but with much tighter space tolerances. I'm still trying to decide how best to do it. My studio is absolutely jammed with stuff right now....

I'm building 6 more corner traps in a couple weeks so I can get ALL the corners treated, two will have to be gobo's so I am going to make them into tables with casters :) - Suprstar is going to come over and build som too, since I got's the sweet garage workshop. - Did you see the corner panel trap photos I posted in the other thread? They fit great into a corner. you can adjust the face width as you like, but using an 18" face width its easy to make 2 panels out of 3 sheets of 2x4 rockwool.
