There's a black ring around the threading, about half way up, shaped like a flower head when viewed from above?

Just screw it down out of the way

Right if your on about the black circular thing around the top of the mic which i photographed..i take that off its just a black pole with a hole in at the top..on both ends. And the only cable I got with it was a adapter and that has a gold like screw but its bigger than my mic stand screws and it dont come off..thats where am confused..finally theres like a heavy wrench type like device that i noticed the filter screws onto..but where that fits onto any stand am lost on as well

Steenamaroo's :) thanks though :( think am doomed to never use this mic *cries*

I don't mean to be rude but i don't understand your last post.

Just take a photo of your mic holder's threads.

They should look like this

or this

Hi MasterRS
I'm a Mac user now, so I'm not up with the WIndows7 tweaks, but since it's USB I can't see that the INtel HD card comes into it expect for playback?

Great saads. Maybe instead of boosting your post count then you'll actually post something relevant to the thread topic?

First they ask questions...

Then they start making demands...

Then they start pimp-slapping.

There are some sticky's at the top of the Cubase forum that will help you get setup.

I believe there is also a quick start guide included with your C5 purchase as well as the printed manual. And there should also be a manual under documentation in the Steinberg folder. Unless of course, you are not using a paid version. If this is the case, I cannot and will not help you further. We don't take kindly to people who don't pay for their gear. In fact, we kick them quite hard.

I sincerely hope you are using a trial version. :D

Okay. The instructions for assembling your Reflexion filter are HERE.

On your mic stand, the "adjustable" bit is known as the "boom arm". Adjust that so the boom arm is pretty well vertical (i.e. parallel to the main stand) and only about six inches of the boom protrude past the adjuster section. You want most of the boom down beside the main part of the stand. One end of the Reflexion filter bracket just clamps around the boom arm as near the angle adjustment as you can. There are pictures in those instructions that show what it should look like--but as you have a light weight stand, get the boom arm as close to straight up and down as you can. The filter itself clamps into the middle of the fitting you just clamped to the mic stand--and the mount for the mic should screw onto the vertical post at the end of the fitting.

Is there somebody a bit more mechanical you could ask to help you if you can't follow the pictures?

As for Cool Edit, what version do you have and what version of Windows do you have? I ask because Cool Edit disappeared 7 or 8 years ago and became Adobe Audition. This both changes the set up and also introduces a problem in that Cool Edit was never released for software later than Windows XP. I know some people manage to run it on Windows 7...but others can't get it to install.

Frankly, you might be better to just post a specific Cubase question in the Cubase forum on this board than trying to make some old software work with a new OS.

Not to mention that this has become the MasterRS help thread. Not that that is a bad thing. Many other noobs would benefit from direct/specific questions when posted in an appropriate forum.

This is the smoothest flowing multiple page thread I have seen that didn't involve a bunch of name calling tho. Very nice. :D

I disagree jimmy. I think it's a very bad thing when noobs would rather wait six hours for a human response rather than just google image for mic stand threads.

You're right, noobs would benefit from a direct approach but there's a threshold IMO.
Certain things you should just know/figure out, or research yourself.

Master, There'll be no name calling here, but I do think you'd stand to benefit from reading and reading and reading. As much as you can, equipment reviews, manuals, user guides, whatever's relevant.

I rely on the forums for a lot of advice, but you have to have a foundation first.
I say this, because you're at the 'what should i buy?' and 'how do i plug it in?' stage.
There are a bucketload more stages after that, and I don't think the patience of this thread is gonna hold out pal. ;)

I agree ...... especially when they get mad at people for not answering questions ..... have it pointed out to them that the guy DID answer some of their questions .... and then want him to answer it again so it's on their current page view!
:D
To get anywhere with recording requires some amount of initiative and willingness to work at something. At least to the point of figuring out mic stand threads.

I think I may have been misunderstood. I totally agree that one should spend the time to research for themselves. I was just saying that separating questions into different posts in the appropriate forum would benefit others more. I highly doubt anyone would read this whole thread. That being said, MasterRS really needs to spend some time with some manuals and get a grip on it all before asking a thousand questions.

Where the hell did he go anyway? Hopefully purchasing legal software. :D

Hi firstly i dont have my Cubase manual anywhere as ive moved house. And secondly the only ever software I downloaded illegally was Reaper and it was deleted from my PC anyway as I didnt like the software. So rest assurred theres nothing illegal on my computer.
Finally the manuals for the SE X1 have nothing about this. On top of that someone said something whcih basically was lik oh RS is a dumbass google a image of a mic thread. Well if you look at the pictures I uploaded one of them is the top of the thread as somebodys asked..and ive already said twice that my mic stands dont match their and neither does my mics fit there..therefore am waiting an aswer to that..im not asking stupid questions..but you cant even find the result on google or youtube. As for the cubase set up i didnt realise you even had a post existing in that forum so sorry and ill have a look.

Master, I didn't call you a dumbass. (i don't think)

You're not waiting for an answer; WE are.
I went to the trouble of posting photographs for your reference, and asked you to post a photo of your shockmount/clip threading.

Without knowing what that looks like, no one can help you but yourself, and since you aren't prepared to help yourself, you'd be best off posting a picture of it.

Seriously man, you're getting a lot of help here. You can't afford to get annoyed about it.

Post a pic of the two things that wont screw together and someone might help you.

Just to be clear and avoid any animosity, I am not trying to call you out. It just seems fishy when someone does not have the included documentation for their software. Typically, this is attributed to someone who is using cracked copies. Sorry if I offended you.

I have no issues with helping you. In fact I actually enjoy helping out. There is however an amount of research that should be done by anyone wanting to learn how things work. Trust me, once you get up and running, many of the questions you have had will all make sense to you. You will also have a thousand more questions.

Did you find the PDF of the Cubase manual? Feel free to ask me any questions regarding setup and use of Cubase if you run into problems. You likely will. I know I did when I first started. :D

I understand. But theres also some people who when they get a disc just install it type their serial in and never keep the disc again or dont store it safely. Nowadays discs such as CDs are outdated even bills dont come on paper and most software is downloaded and purchased. And its like norton i didnt even get a disc for it just a serial by email. So no offence taken but we're all not collected CDs espically when your not as unorganised as I am.
Secondly I already took a picture of the top of my mic stand both ends are the same as that. And thirdly the reflection filter instructions am going to read and go through. And forthly ill upload a pic of the mic adapter clip that the mic scews into for you guys.

Finally I looked at the Cubase set up and that worked for me HOWEVER..My Behringer HPM1000 headphones don't fit into my focusrite saffire 6 USB? And also I dont know how to make it so that recording is through the focusrite and playback through my laptop speakers or headphones plugged into the laptop..any help with this would be appreciated

Guitar guy your a legend..many thanks for telling me that no one else did. They just have ago at you for asking many questions (even though Absouete music never told me this never did anyone on the thread) - not having a shot at anyone.

ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting - this is the wrench like thing i got for the relfection filter
ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting - this is the reflection filter that screws into the wrench..but i need to know how to connect it to the mic stand (black hole unit in that pic)

RE headphones.
Any audio/pc/electronics store will sell these for a pound or two.

RE mic stand
i f88kin knew it.

Get a screw driver or a thin coin and take out that silver thread adapter.
The silver adapter (with the slot at either side of it) is the same as the gold adapter in my picture.

Take it out by unscrewing it anticlockwise, then mount your clip on the stand.

RE the reflection filter
I'm sorry, i can't really help with that, but two out of three aint bad ;)
