I have been dabbling with recording for the past few months and want to take it to the next level. I currently run a Peavey pv6 mixer into my laptop and use Mixcraft to record and mix/master.

The problem i am having is that everything is recording onto the same track. It sounds ok with using the EQ on the mixer but if i wanted to tweak the sound of the bass drum im S.O.L. without ruining the whole track.

I would like to be able to record bass drum, snare, toms, over head, guitar1, guitar2, bass, and vocals all on separate tracks. I know i have to purchase MTR or interface but im not sure which one will suite my needs.

Any help would be amazingly appreciated!

Thanks!

Yeah man! You need an audio interface to do that stuff! First off... How many tracks will you be recording at once? That'll let us give you some possibilities!

And welcome to HR :)

Thanks for the welcome! I would like to record 6-8 tracks at once.

Welcome to the forum! Guitaristic is absolutely correct. You need an interface. Are you a PC or a Mac? Do you have a firewire port or USB2.0? Operating system? Give us some info yo! :D

If you were using the PV6 correctly, you could record two separate tracks at once as it has stereo USB output. Like the other say, you need an interface - with as many (or more) inputs as you want to record separate tracks. Make sure it has enough mic preamps for all the mics you want to use at one time.

I currently have a PC with Windows Vista. My laptop is a Sony Viao with USB and a firewire input.

Well I am know here to be the site pimp for Tascam gear as I have had nothing but good luck with their gear. US 1800 would be the device I would recommend. 10 preamps will allow you the separate tracks you are looking for at $300.

Thanks for your input! i have the PV6 connected to my laptop via USB, why am i only getting one track?

Do we need to have a pimp-off to see who is the champion?

:D

But yes, like Jimmy says the 1800 will fit you nicely! I've had nothing but success with Tascam as well...I use the 1800's predecessor, the 1641!

Pimp off is on!!!

Who gots da shizzle fo da least cashizzle? Tasc ham. Who gots da drivas fo PC suvivas? Tasc ham. Yo diggidy...

LOL! Us white boys should not attempt this.......

We need to have a chat with Tascam boys and see if we can get an endorsement for promoting their gear around here. A sexy/shiny new 1800 would definitely make me happy. Plus, I would donate my 1641 to a new user that might be a bit financially challenged.:D
