Hi,

new here and new to recording world. I have a PCM 10 which I used for my djembe sessions.

I want to record a Hang Drum at home and make some tracks. I have been doing some search and I am torn what to buy, here is what I have narrowed down to, one of these

- 2 small condenser microphones for xy recording ( I don't know which ones around $150)
-2 large dia condensors for xy or 1 large dia condensor ( I am thinking of Rode NT1A, AKG 220 or MXL V67I)
- Pro tool pre amp or DMK3 or Tascam or Art ( have no idea)
- I am using Reaper right now, what do I need more.

Thanks for your time and help

Have I missed something along the way here?
What is a hang drum?

For a djembe you would want a Large diaphragm microphone for the bottom hole much like a kick drum then a small diaphragm microphone on the top skin much like a snare drum.

This will result in a great recording.

I am not concerned about recording the Djembe, but thanks for answering.

It seems to be kinda like a steel drum.

No clue how to mic it.

Yes, it originates from steel pan , but has a different character. Something between a piano and a harp.

I am thinking of getting these for the set up, what do you think

- EMU 404 usb interface
- Confused between M Audio pulsar SDC and MXL 603 pair.
- Recording in Reaper.

Thanks for the advice

Well then you might want to try an omni microphone.

I gotta get one of these.
