Hi, i recently bought a ITAM 1610 16 channel reel to reel recorder. I dont know much about it, i can find anything about it on the internet. Can anybody tell me anything about it or what its worth? Thanks!!

I may be wrong about this but I recall it being the same machine that Soundcraft marketed for a while. It was not considered to be very good. The competing TASCAMS were far more reliable. I doubt you will find any spare parts or support for it today. If it works and you didn't pay much, you scored. If it needs anything other than calibration, you're in for a bumpy ride.

jpmorris, that image may not help jhawk4566 but I liked it :)

It looks like the bottom 6U of the tape machine rack are DBX 900 series enclosures for noise reduction. jhawk4566, does your unit have those? If not the 410-411 modules, which it says were an option on the machine, are not too rare on Ebay and usually sell for under $100 per module.

I know virtually nothing about the 1" ITAM machines, but AFAIK they had a 1/2" 8-track machine on the market in 1973. It was based on a hacked Revox A77 chassis and they turn up on ebay occasionally.
ITA supposedly stood for Industrial Tape Applications, but no-one knows what the M stood for.

ITAM 1610 schematics

Hi, i recently bought a ITAM 1610 16 channel reel to reel recorder. I dont know much about it, i can find anything about it on the internet. Can anybody tell me anything about it or what its worth? Thanks!!

I was using a ITAM1610 for several years and I still have it.
Worth? It is a nice piece of furniture.
The concept of the machine was ok but it was lacking a lot
of engineering power to bring it to a good ending.
I can send you a set of original schematics.
Pancake Reelmotors were a great idea but
there was no servo system/tape logic to get it working properly. So I did a complete
redesign of the 1610. As well you will notice some crosstalk of the control signals
to the audio signal at the audio cards . One good thing is, that the machine is very lightweight
and transportation is easy. But a TEAC ATR60 is also cheap nowadays and will be a far better recorder.

Cheers, Tinn
