it in a blog post on the PlayonDVR blog later this week. We've been wanting to write more blog articles - I believe this makes an a good topic.

Whoops, I was meaning to post this here in case anyone is interested:
More Songs About Demons

...it has the final versions of several songs I've posted here. It has been subsequently mastered, but the whole thing was recorded on TSR-8s and mixed to 1/4".

If you go to the tab that says "example music" There are two songs "Crickets" and "Moths", part of a piano suite my friend wrote that I recorded to my TEAC 3340S. They are really weird piano compositions, and the old 3340 brings out the best in them I think. I used a modded DX-4 dbx noise reduction on these recordings :)

Putting the new 24-track through it's paces:

This is a quick demo mixed to computer. No vocals, and in fact no more tracks to put them on yet, because the mixer only has 16 channels. I flubbed one of the synth duets as well.

I just recorded this last weekend with an 8 track. It was a bit of a challenge trying to get the full drum kit, an acoustic guitar, an electric, 3 vocalists, a violinist, and to top it all off... they wanted to do it live.

And I've never had so much fun in a recording session

Who wants to be perfect anyway

I would like to post my songs but apparently

"You are only allowed to post URLs to other sites after you have made 5 posts or more."

It seems a bit counterproductive and anal to me.

Very Nice! The 3340 is an awesome deck. What is the mod in the dx4? Just bypass the control cable mod?

I like it. :D

Excellent JP. What is the 24 track your using?

Really impressive recording... only thing letting it down is the lack of bass guitar imo, really would give it the nice bottom end it is missing.

What machine was it recorded on?

First track to analog....

Hi everyone. This is the first track I've recorded on my Tascam TSR8.

I use a Bock u195 microphone through an FMR RNP preamp with an FMR RNC (compressor) and Lexicon LXP-1 (reverb) for the vocals and just the Bock/RNP for the guitar/percussion. The guitar is through a sans amp pedal and the Lexicon LXP-5 (echo). The tracks were mixed on my A&H Mixwizard 14:4:2.

I swear there's a "warbly" sound i hear in my headphones that I never heard through my monitors. I have no idea what it is or where its coming from.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. It's an MSR-24. Probably about as high-end as I can go and still be able to get it up the stairs :-/

Have you tried recording a 1khz test tone and playing it back? If it's a speed fluctuation problem, your chief suspects will be the belt and the pinch roller.

However, it sounds a bit more like a very, very bad MP3 encoding to me. Does the original WAV sound like that? Would it be worth uploading a short clip of the WAV version somewhere?

There seem to be some additional artifacts now (clicks/pops) which may be from my tape deck or from the AD conversion...

I looked at the WAV file and there's a whole bunch of digital dropouts, e.g. at 1:48 and 2:16. You can see the waveform just break in mid-cycle.

For MP3s, I always use lame with the -v option. It seems to work pretty well.

Thanks for taking a look at that. I'm glad to know it's likely the computer or AD checking out than it's an issue with the 8-track. Any thoughts on the rest of the audio? There's a bit of background noise, which may be coming from my LXP-1 reverb unit. I have the Dolby NR on during recording and playback on the TSR-8.
