I think you have great ideas, and I like that the tune builds.

It doesn't really all fall apart until the vocals come in. I'm not sure if they need compression or what, but they sort of vary between being too quiet and dominating the mix. You definitely need to carve out some space for the vocals out of the guitars or somewhere, because the mix gets really jumbled when the vocals come in.

I know people are going to bitch about your guitar tone...I personally liked it.

The bass may be out of control...I can't tell on the "speakers" that are playing this right now.

The overall level of the song is pretty low, but I don't mind that, because it builds and gets louder throughout...I think that's cool.

I dont want to say to much on the mix as im a bit sick (flu)

sans vocals and I was really enjoying the playing...it was kinda like a live mix, I like the guitar tone and the drums...bass seemed a bit boomy..but i didnt enjoy the vocals so much

they were pretty unclear and pitchy...did you double them? because if so that might be whats muffling them...the guitar solo was very loud...mixed like a true guitarist would :)

I wouldnt trash this at all though as the performances were good and the mix can be tweaked into a good mix but Id definitely question whether the vocals need retracked

again please take with a pinch of salt as im still a bit clogged up...there are more than enough rock guys here to help you nail it

Thank you guys so far for the comments... makes me happy :) just to get feedback. I agree on the vocals. i am not happy with them at ALL... i've added some compression to vocals.. and even some to the drums.. as the crash was CRASHING during the solo.. seemed like it helped though. as far as the vocals, yes i did do two takes and added them together.. but i did add compression to both tracks (i need to read up more on exactly how compression works i guess ><, or maybe some pointers??) I'll remove one of the tracks and just redo the vocals completely... but when i do redo them (any insight on what you'd do??).. again thanks for the comments guys.. can't wait to get more and really spend some time carving this thing out and making it better for your ears..

Yeah when doubling vocal tracks the have to be millisecond perfect or they'll sound odd

Id just do one track and only EQ it and add a little delay (of course this is such a finger in the wind thing to say) it obvious depends if the raw track needs it...try to be precise in your annunciation and watch your mike distance so you dont have anything dropping out

as far as compression..and this is just a base to start from..try a fast attack, 0.5s/auto release, 2-8.1 ratio, soft knee and a bit of gain, something in the 3-8db realm

tweak that and see if it gets a better result but to be honest if you are having to fix too much its because they need rerecorded

Im no vocalist though, I have around a 50% success rate :o lol

It is hard as hell though... I"m only using 3 mics.. so theres so much bleedthrough.. any tips/pointers you guys can give me?? i mean with it all... I haven't developed any ability to properly know what exactly to do..... so consider this my.. umm.. *sighs* Please help me lol....

Thank you kcearl for the input on the compression.. i'll give it a go when i get some more time to try and 'fix' this track.. though I don't feel like I'm having to fix too much... then again do I reallly know what I'm doing?? NO!! lol.. but i'll do my best. But, we do record as a band.. so everything is 'live'.. maybe that's why it gives it that live feel... I just want this song to about 90% of what it can be.. then i'll be happy...

Well fuck me... man do i feel stupid.. guys.. i uploaded the wrong damn mix... I know I know... what idiot uploads a mix and then doesn't even verify its the correct one!?? .....THIS GUY!!!... ug.. please look again tonight for the CORRECT take.... sorry to waste your time fellas....

Well I guess I downloaded the wrong mix lol. So I listened anyway. :).

A couple of things....

On the vocals... If you double track them I'd put them both down the center and turn one of them down a good 6db lower than the other one. That makes any sync-ing issues more difficult to detect. If your DAW allows, you can also do punch-ins to fix any syncing errors.

I'd back off the reverb and other delay-type effects. You have it on way too thick.

yea that was the mix the drummer was messing with... cracked me up.. he was like "Hey Dan, how do i mess with the reverb"... unfortunately i showed him how...lol.. sigh.. sorry again guys lol.. learning experience fer sher....
