Hey, I have a guitar to USB interface, guitar rig, amplitube, guitarhack impulses, reaper... you know, everything that might be useful to record something at home.

I don't need a total monster sound just something that sounds decent.
Any ideas on how to setup each channel left-right, rhythm-lead and so on?
I am a total newbie, thank you :)

Guitar Rig and Amplitube? You spent some money!

What kind of drums? You need drums, right?

That's a pretty broad question. You should try recording something, playing around with it until it sounds good to you, and posting in the MP3 clinic for specific tips.

That's pretty gutsy, right? You know, to spend over $550 on Amplitube and Guitar Rig before even knowing how to pan a guitar track? Well, Mishung has my respect for throwing all that money into this, so I'm going to respond.

Typically, people will record at least 2 rhythm guitar tracks. Pan one left and one right...50% left and right will be fine. More if you want.

Leads go close to center...I usually have them 10% left or right, but it's basically up the middle.

Thank you chrisharris, sounds perfect, I will try it like that :)

@Chrisharris was on point. For thick rhythm tracks layering and panning opposites of each other helps thicken them up in the song. Leads/solos usually stay center, rarely move out of that but at times a delay bouncing back and forth can sound cool. Let me know if you have any questions about AmpliTube 3. Are you using the full version or the free version?

To add to what has been said:

You can't use Guitarhacks impulses without a convolution reverb plugin. When you load is impulse make sure it's 100% wet with no dry signal mixed in, this is very important as running any of the dry signal along with the cab sim will suck out loud.

If you need a cheap Convolution reverb that doesn't suck, check out mellowmuse IR1A (I think it's like $40 or so). Not aware of any free ones.

Oh and the way you would do that is load the amp sim as an insert in the first slot, then add the convolution reverb after that. Make sure to turn off the cab modeling in the amp sim plugin.

Or, just use the cab modeling in the program.

He said he uses Reaper.

Reaverb, a stock Reaper plug, will run impulse files.

Yup but AmpliTube 3 Free has great sounding cabs already. :)
