I've got a 72 (original) Standard Tele, a cheap Epiphone LP Jr (action is high, so I mostly use it for slide) and a cheap ESP which actually sounds halfway decent with its humbuckers.
I rarely use an amp for recording/playing, mostly just POD Farm.
I've seen MIM Strats at reasonable used prices, but a few with the 'fat' lead pickup - I guess these would defeat the purpose of getting a Strat for me.
Opinions?
then your describing a standard 3 single coil, 5 position strat, right?
whether its Mexican made not far from Corona is probably not that big of a deal.
imo, the pickups are the largest difference in electrics, and many go with the Texas Specials it seems these days....I never liked them so much, but thats the pickup most think of it seems for the "strat" sound.
although a friend ordered about 6 sets of the Texas Specials and they measured different, so some differences between these too.
i think a mim is a great deal, if you need the brand name for resale then US made is cool....CL has the US pop up now and then for $500-$450 ....I know someone who just dropped a mint US STrat at GC for $350 because he didnt want to deal with creeps showing up at his door.
here's an oldie but goodie with some notes on mim and us ....
