Do I need a Strat?

I've got a 72 (original) Standard Tele, a cheap Epiphone LP Jr (action is high, so I mostly use it for slide) and a cheap ESP which actually sounds halfway decent with its humbuckers.
I rarely use an amp for recording/playing, mostly just POD Farm.
I've seen MIM Strats at reasonable used prices, but a few with the 'fat' lead pickup - I guess these would defeat the purpose of getting a Strat for me.

Opinions?

No, you don't need a strat.

And that's coming from someone who loves their strat.

The answer to the question "Do I need a Strat?" is the opposite of the answer to the question "Do I have a Strat?".

Yes!
Every guitar player needs a Strat!

That's my opinion, and I'm stickin toit!
:)

Strats are useless and gay. I have two of them.

Very droll Greg :D

My favourite is my Fender Jaguar... which is a temperamental arse of a guitar with a very crap bridge setup... Yet even with my fat fingers I have never found anything I enjoy playing more.

Many years ago I blasphemed its vintage value by replacing the pickups with hum-buckers and disconnecting all the convoluted wiring and knobs and buttons. I also wrapped gaffer tape around the legs of the rocking bridge until they were so tight the bridge can’t move... and go out of tune... but the whammy still works fine (Jag owners might know what I mean).

Anyway... I recon the guitar you "need" is whatever your idea of what sounds best and feels best in your hands (which are probably the same thing to most). Don't Judge the Les Paul from what you've got... it doesn't sound like a good example.

Interesting....i think anyone who doesn't like a Strat is gay. Take a closer look. More than any other guitar, a Strat is shaped like a sexy woman. The Stratocaster is the sexiest of all musical instruments.

Take the time to tune up, then have a giggle... No-one is dissing your babe man :D

My 356 is Reubenesque.

I wanna lefty G&L with a birdseye gun-oiled neck.

Naw, gimme the meat on a double bass anyday, that's a "HUBBA HUBBA" a strong willed man can roll on, into and around, beneath, between and behind.....

I guess we all have our own idea of what a sexy guitar is. Strats and full bodied acoustics for me.

What's best in my hands - my Tele. 39 years in my hands, it's a part of me. Guess I'll avoid the fat Strats, and if I see a deal on a standard set up, go for it. Then I'll have to find yet another reason to tell my wife "I really need another guitar!"

I don't think ,much of them - I have an Ibanez RG whcih is the closest thing to a strat in my collection.

But I just try to play as many guitars as possible when I go to a music store and then I usually find one I like.

I am liking my Epiphone Les Pauls Standard ATM

seems like most of the strats i see are single pickup - i don't like the single pickup

I have many guitars, a '74 Strat included. I use it when I want that sound. I have a Tele, a Hagstrom Swede with Seymor Duncans and a variety of others. I think if you want a Strat, then you need a Strat, otherwise, you're buying into a "brand name for brands sake" issue. I have a strat copy that I love. I put better quality single pickups in it and it's got a feel and sound similar to the Strat, but in a class all it's own. I don't NEED it, but I like it a whole lot. Get what you want and play!

Anyone who equates a guitar with a woman or sex is a fucking weirdo loser.

Case in point. ^^^^^^
