what do you guys think?

When you consider that people on this forum have made perfectly wonderful recordings on a 486 running Windows 3.1 I think that your DAW is akin to using a 100 Kiloton warhead to bake a grasshopper. Drop $300 on a decent refurbished Dell and even then it's massive overkill. Save your money unless you're looking to run FlightSim X maxed out or something.

lol...
well first thanks for the reply.
second, i do understand this is a bit too much...
but as i already decided to go all out and bought pretty decent recording components i dont wana just buy a refurb comp with win 3.11 lol.
i am asking for is there anything "special" i need to look out for, like specific firewire card, or specific motherboard to be used with pro tools or cubase 6 etc.
or any comp that i wana get with my knowledge in comps will work just fine?
thank you

Processing speed, a good interface/soundcard, and Ram, are the critical ones, Firewire 1394 seems fine, USB 3 is the latest, and that's a PC with lots of horsepower, should be just fine.

Best of luck.

If I was in the market right now, I'd be looking at the sandy bridge stuff

yeah, I've read about it...
i;ve lowered my "wish list" specs from i7 ti i5 as i think it will do just fine. (quad core) 2.8
i will need also to add a basic normal video card with high rez and 2 outputs.
the firewire i need for my audio interface.
i would want to make raid either 1 or 5 hadn't decided yet for backups and such on sata6 at least.
mem minimum of 6G prolly hot sync....
1000W power supply to power it all nice
what else is important?

i already got the recording stuff like.
the saffire pro 24
rode nt1a
kokit g6
etc
so i wana make sure the comp will be good.
what do u guys think?

Bullshit. Post links to works done on a 486 with Win 3.1.

The computer you have spec'd will rock out easily, and be viable for years into the future, unlike Wheelies bullshit 486 wetdream.

Especially if you're gonna use virtual drums and other virtual instruments and do audio processing inside-the-box.

Give Reaper a try as your recording software. It's only $40 after the 30-day demo expires.

Search around the web for info on the Rokits, there have been reports on some of the models that they are a bit thin on the bass end of things so you may want to beef that up with a subwoofer at some point.

Software is like a gas. It tends to expand to fill the entire volume (hardware) it exists in.
Pretty much any PC from within the last 5 years or so will be adequate to recording with most modern DAW software unless the specs say otherwise.
The trick is to minimize your software footprint. If possible, disconnect your DAW from the network; uninstall your AV, office software, etc; cut as much bloatware as physically possible.

thank you for the comment.
i am slowly building the computer.... kills me to see all of the shiny new studio stuff just laying waiting for me to finish building the comp :) so i ended up getting the case (cooler master) and ended up with 10GB of DDR 3 1600 memory... now searching for deals on the motherboard i want etc... and ye, wont install any other crap other then the recording software etc....

lol. Apparently your cognitive impairment isn't just limited to political topics.

I think you're money ahead to get 1394 on the mobo, but in any event at one point only the T.I. chipset was trusted. I don't know if things have changed but if I was in the market I'd make sure my firewire card used a T.I. 1394 chipset just for the warm fuzzy.

Hey, thanks for the response.
could you please tell me why TI is the only one compatible? i have read in other sites i do need only the TI to go with my firewire saffire pro...
what is that chipset exactly... it will not play well with other chipsets? that really limit the mobo i can buy... unless i buy a mobo without it and then search for a firewire card withe the TI specific...
no?
what would you recommend? thank you.

here is a link to the firewre built in the mobo i want to buy:

EDIT:
ok so readin seems like only the T.I chipset plays nice with audio stuff....
the nobo i had in my list does not have the T.I
all gigabit mobo's has T.I
am i right?
if so i will delete the asus one from my list and go with gigabit....

YET ANOTHER EDIT:
seems like this will work.
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3772#sp
no ?
