Which software are most studios using?

Lol. I do like it. It was hilarious to me when you unleashed those 3 little words. :laughings:

I've been kicking around the idea of covering "Not To Love You" for a long time now. I really like that song. I know it's kind of bubble-gummy, but I think it's my favorite of yours. Real catchy.

Yeah, you've told me it's your favorite before. That's cool. It's got a "kids are Alright" type of bubblegum-ness to it, I guess. I'd love to hear you do it. You could probably cover most of my songs a lot easier than I'd be able to cover any of yours.

Hey, there's an idea. Rather than have some kind of dumb-ass "contest", we can have some kind of "Cover-off Challenge," where people post songs and others do their version fo them.

Or not.

That sounds like a fun idea to me. No contest, no egos, just for shits and grins. Try to do it authentically, or make it your own.

I got dibs on Rami's "Not To Love You". And yeah, it's got a 60's garage pop kind of feel to it, and I really dig it. It could be a Dave Clark Five song or something.

I think it would be a good laugh...but in a few weeks Im off recording for a couple of months :(

can you all wait? fuck starting with out me...Im starting a new genre.... Minimal Glitch MiroHouse :D

Cool idea with the covers - I like it.

Now can someone please explain how I can fix the mids in my iMac to match my PC?

guitaristic: everyone covers novi yo

I've used Pro Tools for a couple years, and recently started moving over to Presonus Studio One Pro since I was really tired of DAE errors on Pro Tools. It's easy to use. I'm not pro. I tried Reaper, but I didn't care for the user interface. To each their own.

I've seen Nuendo, Cubase 6, Pro Tools, Logic, whatever in studios. I also see a lot of very expensive rack gear in pro studios, thousands of dollars in mics. Figure out what you want to do -- you want to go pro? or have a home studio? Pick your room, put your stuff in there and arrange it right, treat the room. If you want to use third party plugins, look at those as well and make sure they support the DAW you pick. DAWs all do pretty much the same thing. Some are pickier than others about how your computer is configured, and what you have connected to it, and what you have on your computer.

The software(s) I use for my own stuff is a bit unusual. I still use a tracker (oldschool Amiga guys will know what I mean) for drums.

I wanna try out Pro Tools but from what I have read Pro Tools only work if u a external hardware?? I have a Tascam US-122 do you think Pro Tool will work with that??

since pro tools 9 you can use any interface, so yes, that tascam interface should work well. ;)

The studios around me use, pro-tools, logic, and cubase. There's one that has all three, and depending on which engineer is working, they'll use their preference.

All DAWs pretty much do the exact same thing, a lot of it's just preference.

The three best are: SADiE, Sequoia and Pyramix.

Probably about equal, but different (I use Sequoia).

I was at Abbey Road a couple of years ago as a recording of the LSO and the whole thing was recorded to Sequoia.

Anything classical probably uses one of these.

Pro Tools is popular, but mainly for sound with vision I think.

Ive been to a studio that runs Pyramix, and had chance to talk to a classical mastering engineer ex Abbey Road who uses it. Correct me if I'm wrong but those programs are whole systems rather than just software, I suppose for mixing and mastering they are top dog. Much like Pro Tools HD, is really a whole system rather than software.

It depends on the studios purpose, if your a artist/band recording studio then I suppose people use Pro Tools, partially because a HD costs so much its more cost effective to keep on that upgrade path rather then dumping it for something else, also in the old days the original Pro Tools just made the popular cut just like apple over Microsoft, I use Pro Tools and I like it. If your into Film/TV composition allot of people use nuendo, often along side Pro Tools for mixing. I think Logic is making a big dent in the industry now though. . . but Reaper is getting very good press in every level of the industry. I have heard allot of people who use Reaper re-wired into Pro Tools to bypass the 4g RAM limit and soon after just dumped Pro Tools altogether. The future looks bright for Reaper.

The thorn in my hand, the shotgun to my head. . . I swear all the random errors you get in Pro Tools eventually drive you insane, Its a really good Program aswell. . . shame. Pro Tools is like a really picky girlfriend, you do whatever it asks to try and please it and after days and hours of hard work you make it happy, then 2 seconds later it finds somthing new to be unhappy about.

I don't think so.

I'm not sure about Pyramix.

Sequoia (and Samplitude) are definitely software only and you use the hardware of your choice.

SADiE you have a choice. In the past it was a complete system with hardware (which is wy I went the Samplitude / Sequoia route myself), but the latest version of SADiE is now available native and you can buy software only.

Covering other members' songs is a good idea. We did it 7 or 8 years ago, and it was awesome fun. Of course, part of the reason it was so great was because I was participating, and I'm not sure that kind of magic is going to be re-created, but you guys should still do it.

Lemme' plug a keyboard in and I'll do KC's entire catalog before dinner!
