I'm looking to add keyboards to our band ... two out of three of us play, but I have no idea what to look at and/or purchase. I have a 14-year old who will be playing in the bandroom when we aren't rehearsing, so I know that I want 88 weighted keys ... other than that I'm looking for a decent keyboard, preferably with a few patches and/or ability to add later via USB ...

I'm new to all this forum stuff, so please be patient.
We have a 4-piece band, play all covers ... range from Talking Heads to Synard to GFR to Collective Soul ... an eclectic set list. Both my lead guitarist and myself (bass) are the vocalists and we both play piano ... so I'm shopping.
We have a budget, and I would only consider 88 weighted keys ... other than that all that is required is either a few internal patches (Hammond) and/or the ability to interface with a USB device to add effects.
Is there a simply, elegant, affordable solution out there?

You kinda posted in this clusterfuck of a thread so you may want to make a thread of your own in the keyboard section for more response
Im not sure of your budget but youve got a couple of options...on the higher end of the scale youve got the nord C2, which has a split keyboard...then Hammond actually make a couple of 61 key gigging keyboards, the XK-3c and XK-1....then korgs SV-1's somewhere in this price range as well with 88 keys..but these are in the $1500-$3000 range
On a budget..a JV with a vintage keyboard expansion and a dedicated 88 key midi controller could set you back around $650-$800 and give you more room for expansion
For me these are the best you'll get...if you are just wanting a synth with a couple of patches then there is a far bigger choice, albeit without weighted keys, more like synth action keys

My only question would be "What does a view demonstrate ?". If you click on it, look at it for 55 seconds and then click off and never return to it, ever, and ultimately totally forget you ever even looked at that vid and never recall the name of the artist, well, what does that demonstrate ?

Older Rocker needing help to record to new technology
Hello, I hope I can find some help on this site. I am older guy who has played guitar for 32+ years, just for fun. Started out as a drummer and anyway I would love to record some of the songs I have written over the years. I just bought an electric drum set so I could put the drums to my vocals and guitars. I really need help to make the change from the old days to get to where I could record my own music. I am an artist and have used Mac computers for many years. Any help would be great. Thanks
