Meh...
Hey all,

I have a new track, not a cover this time! I haven't written the vocal part yet but thought I'd upload the track so far to get your input and critiques.

DECENTER - APRIL

Thanks,
Garry

Your sound is awesome! What's your secret... Just kidding... :)

I like the hell out of it. I'm very interested in hearing the final product when you get it done.

Sounds good man - got a kinda Foo Fighters vibe. Great sound. Nice guitar work.

Is that just two guitar tracks?

Nice vibe.

I don't think the intro came across very well. Maybe you could try fooling around with the placement of the guitar part. The beginning drum fill sounded odd also. Beyond that the song took off very well and was pretty cool. Nice solo work.

Sounds great man! The drums gotta nice thud and cut through well. The guitar are good too. Very tasty lead work there...I kinda got excited there :D:D. Good modern rock vibe, can't wait for vocals. Oh, and, yea, you might consider fixing that intro. It just sucks the power out when you wait like that. I like that drum fill, but it just needs to be closer to those punches.
:)

I used the Awesome Plug-In. :) hehe

Thanks! I'll hopefully finish it sometime this weekend if I can get the kids and wife to bed early. haha

Cool, exactly what I was going for. ;)

As far as guitar tracks go... with the exception of the intro riff and the solo there are two guitar parts at a time, but each of those parts have been doubled.

Nice vibe.

Was it the sound of the fill or the fill itself? I decided to use only the room mic for that fill so when it all came in together it hit harder.

Nice! So I've moved the intro closer to the drum fill at the beginning taking some of that dead space out. I've updated the link above.

I love the room only drum fill. Freaking love it so much I'm going to steal the idea. I'm not a fan of the kick drum. Seemed to lack body and low end?!?! I'm no expert on the genre tho.
Love the guitars, very nice.

Cool - I've been playing with the same idea lately... :)

I was going to mention something similar about the Kick Drum also but I'm just a "Newbie"...

Now that's more like it man!! Don't you think that gives it more oomph? Well, hey while I'm in the producer's chair....waddya think about a greasy bass slide comin' outta that roll to bring in the action? One more thing...do you think the drum roll sounds distant compared to those punches that are so powerful? It' a great song man, I'm just throwin' in a few cents :D:D

I'd have to take a listen again but from what I remember it sounded odd and was out of place, i.e., I don't think it was needed and it didn't help the song to be better.

Okay, I just took another listen. That little drum fill in the beginning just doesn't sound good, it does nothing for the song. It sounds very far away and the sound quality itself isn't very good, especially in relation to everything else in the recording. I'm not sure what you were going for? It would have been more dramatic if it was pronounced instead of subtle. Subtle usually doesn't work for drums.

If that fill was redone and put right in our faces (a bit louder then everything else, just for that one second) then I think it would work well. But as it stands now that drum part sounds like it's coming from a long way off in a bad space.

By the way, the critique was focused on that single drum event. I think the tune rocks pretty hard. It does sound a bit like the Foo Fighters but who cares, they put out better music then most of the crap we're hearing in the mainstream anyway. I really liked the solo work too, you didn't over do it, you gave the song what it needed.

When are you going to put some lyric to the music?

-laz.

P.S.,

I really don't understand the title of the song?

Very nicely done!
The energy is really cool, and the performance is spot on, as for the kick, a little boost at around 85 hz could help, worth a try anyway.

Can't wait for the finished version.

Thanks a lot guys. I went back and listened to the first track I uploaded here a while back and it's a night and day difference between that and this latest effort. And I'd like to think that majority of that progress has been from what I've learned here - and not even necessarily from feedback on my tracks, but from all of your songs too.

I'm working the lyrics out right now and hope to record them tonight or tomorrow night. I'm going back into the "real" studio with my band Strike the Design to finish recording my guitars and that's going to eat up all my time. So I want to get this done asap so it doesn't get shelved.

Laz - Decenter is the name of my one-man-band side project. So it's really just Decenter's track for April 2011. I'll have a proper name for it when I finish the lyrics. ;)

Maximusbs - I'll give the bass slide a try. I even thought about it too, but I was afraid I would be over-doing it since it's a move I use all the time. haha

I'll take a look at the kick but I'm really happy with the mix now and I'm afraid to touch anything and throw it all off balance.

nice alt-rock sound. Some nice riffs, exciting dynamic keeps you listening.
