Sounds good Queepy! What's this BBQ circuit you speak of?
Thanks Idol! 1st gig scheduled for Ethel &Earls Pig Roast extravaganza....from there we hope to hit the Union City Carp Rodeo, Toms Divorce bash, and various other big time gigs ;>)
stevieb : Way too much effects on it in the intro, for sure... Scratch that- do away with the first 10 seconds' guitar solo intro altogether. Distracting and amaturish. As much as I love tremolo, and I even like reverb, there is WAY too much of both in that first ten seconds. If you start the first set with that song, as-is, you will have EVERYBODY headed for the pool, the kitchen, etc.- whereever they can go to get away from the band- it won't matter if the rest of the set is wonderful- you will have lost them. Not saying you aren't good, just that is about the goofiest 10 seconds I have heard in years. The Doors' understated, jazzy cymbals intro just works for this song- go with that.
Dude, I'm all over the goofiest 10 seconds you heard in years :>) I do get your point about amaturish and lame...I have a hard time avoiding that in my playing.....this recording is from the 1st night we really tried it, and basically going off of memory having heard the tune so many times...after reading your post I had to go check the actuall recording , and it als has a kinda goofy intro, this is intro from the remastered LA Woman album:

I like your idea of the quiet understated intro a lot....the bad thing is the other 2 guys have now heard this intro I just posted above, and want me to try and do that weird ..."My Country Tis a Thee " type thing....will definetly try and knock that reverb down on the patch I used , created on the fly on
my Pod HD500....Thanks for listening and the feedback!
Tobe :1122227I thought I was going to hate this... but you can do my BBQ anytime And a fantastic live vibe. I like the freeform lead bit around 2:40 where the Doors kinda meets the Ventures. Kudos to all involved.
Hey thanks Tobe! Were just 3 weekend warriors playing the music we dig ! Yeah, I was really faking my way thru that part(the keyboard solo of the real song) ...glad ya dug it!
Dogmatic:I could totally eat a hamburger, corn, potato salad, turkey leg, baked beans, hot dog, chips, dip, and drink beer to this!
Man, now I'm hungry!! :>).....thanks for listening, glad ya dug it!
PoeticIntensity:If this was recorded live, in a jam-type scenario, then this thing is quite well done, considering. If this were tracked in a studio, I'd say the whole thing has a very hollow sound too it, like a mic was hung from the ceiling and recorded each piece. Performance was great, but the recording definitely could use some work.
Wow, good call PoeticIntensity...thats exactly how it was recorded...1 stereo mic hung from the ceiling out in the center of the room...about 15ft in front of us...into minidisc walkman recorder...record our practices this way to critiuqe after the fact....Just like sharing em here sometimes as the feedback is really helpful....Thanks for listening!
Track Rat : Not too shabby sir. I was in a band back in the 70's that covered this one. You hit all the high spots. Yeah, kind of minimal on the recording side but you nailed the best part of the vibe.
Cool man, yeah its a lot of fun to play with some interesting dynamics/mood changes....just need to tighten er' up a bit! Thanks for checking it out!
