Hi, I have a yamaha MG166cx usb mixer; it has

Mic/Line inputs: 10.
Line inputs: 8 mono + 4 stereo.
Mixer input channels: 16.
Group busses: 4.
AUX busses: 3.
including 1x Effect send.
Main busses: Stereo.

I have cubase AI4, but under VST connections the mixer doesnt come up as an option, I have my sound recording device set as USB AUDIO CODEC, but still nothing.

I am using 7 mics right now to record my drums, they go into the mixer, then mixer into the pc through usb. Wondering if anyone can help with this VST connections, when I try to record nothing happens, im wondering whether I have chosen the wrong mixer :/

I do not have a MG166cx, but it will not show up as a VST. VST's (virtual studio technology) are interfaces used to integrate plugins, synths, etc within your Digital Audio workstation. They are run "within" your DAW. For connecting an interface, you would typically do that through the audio configuration window in your DAW where you setup audio drivers and devices. Your interface will not show up as a VST.

Rightt thanks, but what can I do about recording using this mixer?

I am not sure if the MG166cx functions as an interface or if it is able to only send stereo single tracks via USB. From what I have heard on the machine, it is a digital mixer, but NOT an interface, this would mean it could take in multiple inputs but only send out a stereo signal via the USB of "all" the input tracks mixed together. Because it is not an interface, it will be unable to seperate and send each input as a different track to your DAW.

I found another thread about this question you may want to read over:
