hi there,

i'm wim lecluyse from the netherlands - new on this forum... and botheiring you with a problem from the first post on. sorry!

i have purchased a tascam 488 (the first type, not the mk II) in a second hand-shop about two weeks ago. did some good testing, and everything worked just fine.

but today, i was mixing some recordings, as all of a sudden track 8 disappeared. the recorded music is still there (i checked it by reversing the tape and listeing to track one). but i dont get any signal from it anymore... i also tried recording something new on track eight, but that didnt work either - all the other 7 channels still work fine.

i noticed that when putting on the recorder, you get a slight peak in the signal levels. i get this peak on all levels, apart from track eight...

any suggestions? i read on an other post on this forum (https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=137397) about someone having similar problems. someone also mentioned having problems with track 8 'sometimes' disappearing...

thanks so much!

:D Yo Over "der"

Did you put your 488 tracks in the CUE mode while you were recording?

If not, you could lose tracks.

Like, if you record two tracks at once, you must put those recordered tracks into CUE mode before you over-dub the next track and track and track.

Also try switching the dbx track 8 bypass switch back and forth a few times in case it was dirty or in between switch positions. It's on the back of the unit, I believe.

Cheers! :)

The Ghost of FM's - It's the sync switch! Yes!!!

I don't know if you will ever look at this thread again, but Thank you thank you thank you!!!!

I have been trying for the past couple of hours to figure out what was wrong with my recorder after replacing a belt. I thought track 8 was dead. I have had this thing for ten years and never switched the sync switch either way. :)
