Hours of searching but no answer for my Cubase/ Fast track pro input issue

I have done lots of forum research of this topic and I can not seem to find an alleviation. Cubase analog outputs 1/2 (going to a stereo) are fine. I hear things perfect and can monitor with the headphone jack.

Problem:
I want to record and although the audio track is recording (visually) and sound is playing, the new recorded track receives nothing. Naturally I have been looking up input issues as my only options for inputs are line 1/2 and SPDIF 1/2 (neither of which work) ...Now I have scoured m-audio forums as well as others and the guide from m-audio regarding cubase shows multiple analog mono outputs. I see none of these.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I really need to make some tunes.

I have reinstalled drivers countless times and have used Vista 64 bit and vista 64 bit SP1. Computer sound devices are disabled.

Thanks I really am dying to get some help on this.

attached are pictures of what I'n looking at in Cubases VST Connections......And devices

how is the track set up? I assume it is armed to record?

It's going to be a silly overlooked setting in the Cubase track you're recording to. If record enable is selected, check that the monitor 'button' is pushed. You'll get it. It's not a device problem; it's on the track bus. Divide and conquer.

si si si.. +! for the screenshots..

but i have to ask.. have you tried to record in any other program? this is one of the first things i ALWAYS test..

download Wavosaur or use some other program to record using that same device.. even windows sound recorder will at least tell you if the sound input is working.. could be a driver issue.. i dont know if it is, but this is always something you should check, just to rule it out..

I knew this site was the place to be! I have recorded in ableton lite....I have done a million combinations of arming and monitoring...I assumed the correct one was click track to record to. Click record on track. Click monitor. Click MAIN record. These have not worked. M audio's website shows this for Cubase (refer to pic 1 VST conn FTP Cubase).

Very Frustrating so i really appreciate the help.

ok.. maybe try this

ASIO4ALL

see if you can get your inputs working through that

now, i have to be honest, Vista is a POS.. like, horrible.. Have you thought upgrading to windows 7? the compatibility CLOWNS everything i have used in vista..

but yeah.. try asio4all, see if that works with your inputs, and if not, then it could really be a driver issue with vista, simply because i dont see any issues from the screen shots you have..

oh.. and still try it with another program.. just for testing.. lol

Thanks for the response....Pre external soundcard I used asio4all without trouble...I have tried using it with the fast track as well to no avail. I have recorded with ableton live lite. And I WILL consider upgrading to Windows 7 asap. If it looks right then something is missing but I am stumped.

The Mute button is on!!!

Also , Audio 17 is a stereo track, but you have a mono source going to it. I'm sure that's not what you want, it should be a Mono track.

Also, the Input says M1, but I don't see M1 listed among your inputs on the Connections page. Maybe that part of the iimage was truncated??

Of course Chili but I do solo it when trying to play it back... Here is an updated picture for you that still cannot be heard. M1 is a result of clicking presets in Cubase as it sets things up for you (like 2 Monos and a Stereo) thus the m1 m2 and s1. I mean I have tried all sorts of combinations. Does it have anything to do with my REALTEK cable mics you think...It can't because ableton records. This has been such a trek.

if you can use your hardware with ableton, then it should work for anything else thats worth using..

windows 7 is the super dope.. you will not be unimpressed.. its like vista, but it actually works.. hahaha

i think the OS upgrade will work, and if not, an upgrade the DAW.. but i would point to vista first.. lol

I tried the same combo and it works for me. I'm stumped also. What do you mean by Realtek cable mics???

There's gotta be something obscure that you're missing. And you had it working for a while.... What could have changed??

evidently their is no reason why I should not be able to record so am going to reinstall cubase and roll from their I will post if I find a solution.

What has changed by the way is that I now have an audio interface (m-audio fast track pro) and have switched over to its driver...This means I have to set VST connections to the fast track p...Output is fine...Input results in nothing. Realtek is my previous laptop soundcard driver. The sound card uses two built in microphones and I believe I was recording with previous to the fast track. But....this is an audio interface.....No reason why I shouldn't be able to record with it.

Ah, gotcha... and you were using ASIO4All for the soundcard. Maybe uninstall ASIO4ALL.

yeah, there's no reason for it not to work. It's got to be some setting somewhere. For sure all the hardware is working. What do you have plugged into the Fast Track? Everything set properly there? Have you ever had the fast track working properly?

Shouldn't you have either the "Line In 1&2" active or the SPDIF but not both?
First diagram.
Also: When you're using M-Audio hardware, stick to their drivers. They really are tops at keeping up with the necessary updates.

I am sorry I am confusing you guys with some pictures because I am in the middle of different combinations of things when I take them...I was experimenting with the asio in that case another option for that is "m-audio ASIO" which also was useless.

"New Development though"
And holy crap just when I thought I found something...something else blows up...
I just downloaded the free DAW "REAPER"...I had no recording on there...So this made me go "maybe my ableton recording was a fluke...maybe i just recorded MIDI...But I just disproved this theory. Here is my latest findings and I am posting pics of the fast track just to make sure im not reallllllll dumb at hooking things up.

Thanks for all the help guys I am going to get this done if it is the end of me.

Plug a headset in to your Fast Track Pro and play around with the balance.
After you shave.
Kidding.
Make sure your ASIO configuration matches your DAW. Same goes with your buffers (256 is what you're showing)
Do you have more than one M-Audio driver?
Do this.
Switch off the Fast Track Pro.
Uninstall your driver.
Reboot.
Go to M-Audio Driver Updates and get the latest version.
Do not turn on the Fast Track Pro until the driver is fully installed.
If that doesn't work, uninstal then reinstall your DAW.
For some unknown reason, everything will be working.

.

Yeah, after posting the pics, I'm REALLY confused.... you have nothing plugged into the Fast Track except your monitors and the USB plug. Is this how you had it when you were trying to record??

I noticed that too.
He's got "Line In", "SPDIF In" but nothing "Plugged In".
I'm assuming he unplugged things for the photo but he shouldn't need anything on the inputs for monitoring.
