Is there a noticeable difference in quality between a CD that was "pressed" vs a CD that is Burned? Assuming high quality masters etc? I'm just wondering if burning CDs as needed can be a viable option instead of paying for a pressing plant. I intend to do DIY packaging, so I don't need those services. Thanks.

Should be no initial quality difference; longevity may be a concern . . . if that is a concern.

In what way and why? I mean the CD would last 5 years instead of a pressed disc lasting 10? Or what? Thanks for all the info. MSH you always provide good information that is well researched. I, for one, really do appreciate it.

Something like that, yes. Although I have twenty year old pressed CDs that are doing fine, in theory they should go another 100.

Burned CDs and lifetime is a bit more difficult, some types are supposedly more stable than others. I have not lost any burned data CDs yet though, and I have a few that are 12 years old now . . .
