Hey guys,

I'm about to purchase the FP10 (maybe even two for 16 inputs) and I had a question.

I noticed the first two inputs have Mic/Instrument, while the rest have Mic/Line

Whats the difference?

1 and 2 can be used as a DI which is later described with the rear that has inserts for outboard gear. The others are just normal line inputs or XLR.

do I need to buy mic pre amps for 3-8?

If your using XLR mics, no. If you're using FX pedals or any other gear that has a line level signal then no. If you want to connect a bass or guitar direct into 3-8 with a 1/4 " cable then you'll need a DI.
