I'm using a UCA202 interface to record drums from guitar pro 5. I'm using a L and R RCA cable connecting the input of the interface to the output, so it records whatever goes through it.

Anyway, the problem is that I need to record sound from guitar pro, but guitar pro only produces sound when my speakers are plugged into my old soundcard in my PC. If my speakers are plugged into my interface, guitar pro is totally silent.

I've googled and read many posts on this subject, but none address my specific problem.

TLDR = since I started using UCA202, guitar pro doesn't make any sound.

note: all I've really done is under Options>Audio Settings>Sound Card, I changed it to BEHRINGER USB AUDIO

Go to Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices, and in there somewhere you should be able to open up all your volume settings. Use your internal soundcard, and go to wherever you can see the volume settings for recording. Make sure that stereo mix is checked/unmuted. Then go to Guitar Pro, File>Export>Wave and select whatever one says "input" or has something to do with recording. Tell it where to save the file and name it. Solo the drums, and play back. You don't need to use an external interface to record from Guitar Pro.

I'm not really understanding what you're doing here...

Recording audio from Guitar Pro your computer, to some other program on your computer, via a USB interface?

What are you recording to? What DAW program?

Is there no export option in Guitar Pro, with a corresponding import option in whatever you're recording via?

I'm missing bits of the puzzle... :spank:

And are the drums in GP5 any good? I have GP5 but never actually thought of using it as a sound source...

Yeah there's a few pieces of important info missing. Without looking for them though, I thought I'd give the easiest solution anyway. It can be hard to set up correctly though.

They're terrible :p

Great minds think alike Philby!

True that :drunk: BTW, I actually tried to sleep at a reasonable hour tonight (3AM or so) and got an idea for vocals for a song I'm working on.....

....fuck sake ......

Anyway, back OT :D

yeah they're bad.

what I'm doing is recording drums out of guitar pro and into audacity. it would work like a charm, but guitar pro 5 isn't making any sound. What I'm asking is, how can I get guitar pro 5 to make sound while using UCA202 and not the internal sound card?

Thought that'd be the case based on what the instrument other samples are like... still, ya gotta start somwhere... off to bed now!

Jeez.... never thought I'd get told to go to bed by an eight year old :o

Are you getting sound from Guitar Pro through your speakers/headphones?

And why don't you just use the internal sound card for this task? Clearly, audio quality is not an issue here.

Actually it is, the only reason I'm not using my internal card for stereo mix is because the quality on it became so god awful I couldn't use it.

I can hear guitar pro through my speakers when they are connected to my pc's card, but not when they are connected to the UCA202

Have you set the UCA202 as your soundcard for windows, using control panel? Like, can you hear audio from other programs such as iTunes and your internet browser through the UCA202?

Yeah. Guitar pro is the only source of audio that doesn't play through UCA202, and is the only source of audio that works with my internal sound card. For this reason, I thought there might be something in the GP settings I could change to make it work with the USB interface.

turn your drum track to a midi......then run it through ezdrummer for a realistic sound..........or..........get the new gp6 use the rse and save the drum track as a wave file .Cheers Chris!!!

I exported the drum track as a MIDI and it's entirely silent.

Well yes, MIDI isn't audio, it's just a series of instructions. if you go that route you need to give it some actual drum samples to play.

Oh, ok, thank you. I wasn't sure what a MIDI was obviously.

So, so far we have get a better program. I'm wanting to do one thing here, and that is get guitar pro 5 to make noise again, through the audio interface.

Are you on Windows XP?

Try Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices>Audio, and check that your MIDI Playback Device is set to Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth, and then click Volume (just below it) and make sure that the SW Synth Fader is turned up, as well as your WAVE and Master Volume faders.

Check check and check. Yes, I use windows XP.

I'm really grateful for all this help you guys are giving me and the advice in general. and I'm not just posting and waiting for you guys to fix it for me, I'm constantly checking and trying new stuff and changing settings to try and fix this problem.
