Does amp quality matter?

I LOST THE GAME
Sorry for my noobiness, but if i use a mic'd amp, does the amp quality make a differance? how?
 
Fuck yes it matters. A 5 watt Gorilla practice amp will never sound as good as a quality tube amp.
 
Every little variable, nook and cranny makes a difference to someone. I have two amps at home, a Line 6 spider and a fender bassman. You can put bass or guitar through either and they'll give you totally different sounds with both. Same if I play either through my stereo amp. Even on the amp itself, just depending on how you tweak it with volume, gain, treble, middle , bass and other settings, you'll get different sounds. How much of a difference it makes is for you to determine. Me, I've got cloth ears. But even I can hear the difference.

What are you recording into?
 
the line is guitar-effect pedals-peavey amp. then mic(beta 57)-mixer-interface.
 
It matters, but don't discount cheaper amps. Some, I say some can sound great at low volumes. Like let's say for grit tones, My Line 6 Spider jam is great. For cleans and tweeds, my Fender Mustang II is great. I have tube amps as well, but they can offer additional problems at times.

One trick is to put your ear up close to the amp. Sounds quite different than 4 feet away.

So why don't you record something and tell us if you're screwed or not?
 
Everything in the chain matters, a crap guitar, amp, singer, mic is going to lead to poor results in the end. BTW, I said crap, not cheap. Some cheap stuff is great. My Kramer XL2 is a fantastic git, $220, plywood, sounds amazing. Plays amazing. My Warwick Fortress, not cheap, not so great.

You could probably skip the mixer.Another option is if you have the ability to tap off the dry signal with your effects pedal you would then be just recording an unprocessed guitar track.Then you can experiment with re-amping.

What kind of effects pedal are you using.I have a digitech multi effects pedalboard that allows me the option of recording a dry track.
