What do you think of this idea?

I have created a blog where I am releasing one recording of music every single day, for an entire year. I'm up to 85 days with no sign of stopping.

I am posting this link here because, not only would I appreciate the listening & encouragement of other musicians, but I am also wondering about how such an idea is perceived, in terms of whether it could actually catch on and gain some kind of following. Right now there aren't too many people actually checking the project out.

I'm up to 85 songs as of today, and I'd like to go for a whole year. Releasing one piece of music a day is tough but I love the challenge, and I do think it is having a (small) effect on people taking notice of my music.

Is this a ridiculous idea? A waste of time? I'm not doing it JUST for attention, I really do love the challenge, but with so few listeners, should I be spending energy elsewhere? I'd really love to believe this is something interesting that might eventually grab more than a dozen people's attention.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated : )

Did you get your idea from Jonathan Coulton's "Thing a week"?

* Remember: Quantity does not equal Quality. If your songs are shit, then it doesn't matter how many you crank out.
 
There was some other dude here a few years ago that recorded and released one song a day for a whole year. I don't think it got him anywhere. I could be wrong though.
 
It would be interesting to more than a dozen people if the music you were releasing daily was at least above average. But from listening to a few of what you've posted...it's mostly just snippets of random musical ideas, mostly poorly recorded and not very engaging.

So really, for it to garner a following...I think actually releasing a song a day could be noteworthy and get some sort of buzz.

Tape Op interviewed a guy who did something similar a year or two. He did it while touring though.

Unless your songs are exceptional, you're not going to attract much of a new following. If your songs are decent, your current following may appreciate the new content.

Walter Tore, from this very forums recorded an album each day last Febrary! :D you could probably ask him for some tips.

Ouch ! You're breaking my heart.
 
Gucci Mane do that shit. It sounds like it!!! Most times what he releases is wack. But people are so impressed with the fact that he is that prolific that it doesn't matter. As long as within each release there are 3-5 truly catch-on-able songs, they overlook the garbage. It's not a bad plan, but it falls on having a decent following before you do it.
NOw for me . .

I would sooner cut it back to one song a week and make sure that the one song is something you are really comfortable with putting out there. Then for other "constant contact" and releases . . release video clips of you . . .
in the studio working
performing on the street,
in the front yard,
at walmart,
whatever . ."
just to keep people interested in your daily musings & struggles . .

Wow, thanks for all the feedback! I really appreciate your thoughts.

I'm not so much worried about impressing anyone with this idea, than i am with really just pushing myself to continue working with my music as hard as I can, and sharing it, which inspires me for some reason.

I definitely understand those who said that the music isn't stellar and therefore, it's not impressive to be sharing it every day, but again, that's not the objective for me right now. I'm not that good. The point of the blog is to exercise my musical muscles, at this point in my journey as a musician, as well as to showcase the overall composition process to anyone who might be interested. Little bits that come together over time (or they don't).

All of this is to say: I understand that quantity is certainly not the same thing as quality, but I also believe in the idea of continually creating and sharing music, which in turn inspires me to keep the process alive, and ultimately, make the best music that I can.

Anyhow, thanks for the responses! I've got some things to think about, as well as a musician named Walter Tore to look into.
