Recording or mastering effect?!?!? How to?

Still, not a big trick. Much easier with a decent plugin (far superior sound also...). Just bandpass it so it sounds like a telephone.

I know lol, but for getting it for free its better then nothing til I can afford somehing better but alright thank you for the help guys. So I could do this 'mastering' in Reaper?!? I was thinking of going the Reaper route to see how I like it since it has a free trial.

It's not mastering at all. It's EQing. Yes, you could do it in Reaper for free. Go check it out.

If you want it to sound like it's far away from the microphone or something, you can add some reverb to it.
