My favorite was the Josephson, but the Peluso , as well as the Schoeps, were damned good too. I put the Shure and the Neumann at the next level down, and the rest just didn't sound all that good IMO

The Martin is simply wonderful. It has a balanced resonance and sustain, and it is loud, not boomy,providing you place the mic right.

Hmm... not sure I know what a classic acoustic guitar sound is. I will say that I can almost always tell an sm81 when I hear it. It is widely recognized as a good acoustic guitar mic.

I find the sm81 is very punchy and powerful in the mids, but a little smoky in the upper mids/high. The low end can get loose and boomy and overwhelming if you are not careful, but you can roll it off a couple different ways on the mic itself. The cemc6 is punchy in the bass/low mids, but is definitely brighter in the upper mids. The cemc6 generally sounds softer due to less mids punch than the sm81. I would favor the cemc6 for your guitars, especially given that your room is treated. I would favor the sm81 on a bright Taylor.

The problem, C, is the value of that opinion approaches nil.

Who cares what other people think? Especially en mass. I might care what this one person or that team of folks think about a particular question or subject on which their opinion actually matters, but "public opinion" carries no importance, because by definition and by the laws of averages, the general public as a whole is knowledgeable about nothing.

The bigger the cross section, the more meaningless the response. The only thing public opinion is good for is defining public opinion.

You mean one of those patented HR forum-style polls that are formulated by the very people not qualified to formulate them, and therefore present folks with a limited and awful set of choices based upon an extremely incomplete or biased knowledge of the subject being asked about, and rarely include a robust set of alternative options that allow the respondant to properly respond?

If you put a bunch of these together you get.....(a group).
I agree with you about the general opinion from a group being basically worthless, but the more "opinions that actually matter" you can get, the more information you'll have to choose from.

Sure, but those are two different things. The larger the "cross section" of the general public, and/or the more anonymous strangers one uses for their database, the less people whose "opinions matter" are included and the more diluted the quality of the data.

People tend to mistake quantity for quality, when they are often opposites.

Ehpi82, You already have plenty of equipment. I would suggest setting up all your mics all at once and multi track your vocals then A/B compare the results.

The location and direction of your singing within in your room with have big difference on the recorded sound.

My tracking room is 16 x 32 feet with 8 foot tall ceilings. When tracking I experiment with sing in all different directions and locations. I seem to get the least room reverb when I sing diagonally with respect to the room dimensions. A quick way to get an Idea how things will work is clap your hands in front of your face and listen for the echo. Turn 45 degrees or move a few feet and then clap your hands again.

Once I find a location I want to try, I set up all my mics in different locations and multi track all of them at once. After recording, I solo each channel during play back. This way I get ideas on how each mic colors the sound. Then I go with what I like the best.
