I used a similar coupon a few weeks back when I went to buy a KRK subwoofer. KRK is listed and I questioned the salesman and he told me The reason they do that is because they can not advertise discounts for certain manufacturers. Kind of stupid but they honored the coupon and I was happy.

I did not see Dunlop in there so you can still buy guitar picks. :D

Actually, this new coupon is for 'non-sale' items. The exclusion list is there for every one of the 'deal' coupons GC sends out. But its in the fine print - for discount on those brands, call the toll-free number. Or go to the store and the salesguy will call the number. 99% of the time you get the discount. It's how I got my Taylor last year - online had a NOS deal for $100 off the regular price, and I had a coupon for $200 off a $1500+ item. Sales guy found the online price, called the number to authorize the $200 coupon and I was on my way (eventually).

I see - in fairness, I got a similar coupon (although I didn't read the exclusions) and used it on a nice Blue microphone a couple of months ago, and Blue is listed on this one. More recently, I asked a sales guy whether I could get a Neumann mic with a coupon like that and he said no way - that Neumann never lets them give discounts. So maybe it's a cover-your-ass kind of thing?

Yup...it IS a CYA thing. I was in retail for 35 years. Many manufacturers prohibit ADVERTISING discounts on their merch. Some even prohibit advertising PRICES. Have you ever seen a price advertised for a Rickenbacker? But...there is a big difference between ADVERTISING and actually GRANTING a discount.

Retail is a GAME. The object of the game is to protect your dealership and make a SALE. My JOB was to write copy and develop sales conversations that allowed my retailer to exclude brands from advertising while still giving customers the discounts they demanded.

Play the game. Enjoy the discount. Politely don't take no for an answer and take it up the management chain when necessary. Any price for anything at any store is negotiable.

Add to cart to see price is one of the most rage inducing practices companies employ.

It makes me think you are ashamed of the prices you charge, or you think they are to high and don't want to tell me.

It's a great way to get me to pass over the product.
