Hi, I was working on some weird instrumental stuff. I'm not sure it sounds all that great. I would like some help with a few things if anyone has time. First I don't know how to write an instrumental. I'm assuming it's not like a standard song structure like a normal song with verses and choruses, etc.

So I just had rhythms and melodies that sound like that fit flow into each other, but no real arrangements. Any advice on how I could make it better. I will google instrumental song writing as well, but I like to also get advice from real musicians and recording people in general.

PS It's not death metal so don't worry about having to hear the same old shit from me :D

That pretty much says it all actually. They all fit and lead into each other but at the end of the day it just sounds like an idea minus execution.

I think it needs more than just the guitar tracks. Depending what style you want to take it in, I'd definately add a drum track of some sort, even a real laid back half time thing with a huge sound.

You've got solid ideas sprinkled in there but you need to give them each a more unique character through the production and arrangement. Change up the guitar tone, add some synths, bass, etc. Create more of a mood. Great instrumental pieces can evoke real emotion, you've got a bit of "sad" going, so I'd say run with it. Create a depressed atmosphere to back up your riffing.

Thanks for the input. not sure how much more I can accomplish with it other than arranging it better and redoing the parts that don't sound as good. Or removing the parts that don't fit.

I was trying to go for an all guitar thing, not sure how that's going to work out.
