Find a mythical, made up band from some where.
My favorite is when the band *Hawk Wind* got there name from a Michael Moorcock book.

holy shit vomit hat steve, being a former dungeons and dragons enthusiast i naturally looked up your band, and you're coming to Madison in 2 days. I go to school there. Maybe i'll stop out at the frequency sunday.

The first band I was in was in 8th grade and the name was "The Lost Rebellion". Me and the bass player still laugh at that.

In the 70's we had a band named after a Herbie Hancock song: Chameleon. We got a bank account, and decided that the thing to do was pay extra money and instead of regular checks get this fancy 3 ring binder with unusually large checks in it... all very pompous.

So instead of "Chameleon" they spelled the band's name, throughout the whole damn thing: "Ghama Leon".

Hey Ghama! Get your ass over here!!!

I always thought that for a cutesy name "TA DAA" was ok or maybe "LA-DE-DA" would foot the bill. :)

I run sound occasionally for a ska band named TIP short for Ten Inch Penis. :D

I always liked "Live Band Nightly".

:)

Which reminds me of times joking around with my band mates - back before the day!! ..... (that's how long ago it was! Heck when God said let there be light. I got to throw the switch!)
..... any ways ~ long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away There were these lads looking for a name for their band and the "Free Beer" name always joking came up, now granted with a name like that you would for sure fill the house but ensue riots. :D

How about I give you some real advice, Phil lol.

Come up with several names. Then go through them all until you find the one where it has no web presence. In other words.

YouBand.com

myspace/youband

facebook/yourband

twitter/yourband

reverbnation/yourband

soundclick/youband

etc. etc. etc. etc.

It's actually really important to get your dot com because if you do at least get a small cult following when they type your band name in the browser it'll be the first link that pops up.

Also, you'll want to keep it simple so it's easy for people to remember. If you have a super long name like "The Post Mortem Hill Billy Poontanglers" you'll be lucky if your idiot fans will remember it.

Keep in mind that most folks are kind of stupid from too much TV and Radio and just don't operate on the same level as a normal human being.

Sweet! Do it!

If you want random, internet-generated names, you could probably hack something together from seventh sanctum.

It's a whole pile of name generators for fiction (i.e. role-playing and writing), so you could pick a theme that fits with your band's style and roll up some names.

eg, if you play pirate death metal, you could use the pirate ship name generator. If you're a bunch of Japanese teenagers, you could use the Anime magical girl name generator. etc.

I too would like to know which two bands Greg thinks have good names.

I hate picking band names.

Gayest ever. Just when i think im onto a good one some slams it.

Its just gonna be my last name from now on.
