I'd say pretty good, especially when you consider the population of the whole state is around a million. Here's the Honolulu Craigslist: http://honolulu.craigslist.org/oah/msg/

There's lots of music here because of different factors - tourists, lots of military guys buying Strats, big mix of cultures, there's just a lot of musicians here.

Plus there is no storage in anybody's house - no basements so nobody has any room for stuff. People are constantly moving and ditching stuff.

It's a great place to buy used cars. No one has space to park a car when they get a new one so they are cheap if you know how to buy.

Here's the Hong Kong Craigslist (population 7 million) for musical instruments:

Wow! what a difference. the Islands are a treasure grove of gear.

Thank you everyone for being so helpful. I like this place! :D

I'm definitely going to start small. I don't have the funds right now to get a mic or interface, so in the meantime I'll be working on my music and writing ideas down. I'll probably try recording with what I have now too just to see how far I can go with it. It helps to read what everyone has to say. Makes it seem a little less daunting lol.

I'm a tad lost about the interface. I'm thinking I'll get the
PreSonus FireStudio Mobile FireWire Audio Interface. I don't think my computer has a Firewire port, though. So I would need to get a PCI Firewire card?

If you do this with modest expectations you will learn a lot about recording. You will know exactly what problems you want to solve and capabilities you want to gain on your next round of upgrades.
