Welcome to the site and........

you're going to need to give a whole lot more info than that if anyone is going to be able to help you.

What mic?
What Fostex Digital Recorder?
What software?
How is it all connected??

Also, a little bit of punctuation, grammar, etc, will help others read your post easier. You only get words to convey your thoughts, make it easy for your readers. :)

peace,

Most times its something really stupid, so the first thing I would do is to replace the mic cables, then go from there..

again not enough info to do more then speculate

but a phantom powered mic needs something to supply the phantom power and it, by & large, needs to be the first thing into which its attached

but again what mic?, what recorder?, what program?

I hope you bought it new, because you should call up tech support.

just to get it straight though...(for everyone else)

1. You are powering the peavey studio pro m1 mic through phantom power supplied from your Fostex MR-8.

2. You are trying to interface the Fostex MR-8 to your computer.

3. Cool edit pro isn't recognizing the interface.

(assuming you know how to hook everything up correctly, and the power is on...) I would check if any drivers from fostex needs to be installed, then if not, I would check in Cooledit's preferences/audio menu that the audio input is set to the fostex (USB, or whatever).

Justin, commas and full stops work wonders. There are going to be alot of people who could otherwise help you that will simply ignore this because you haven't punctuated what you've written. No one's asking for PHd standard ! Just a few commas and full stops. You're the one that is asking for help. Why should people have to work out what you're saying first ?

If that seems harsh, well, what can I say ?

A quick read of the OWNER'S MANUAL shows that you can't go straight through the MR8 to a computer. You have to record it first on the MR8, convert to a wav file then import it into your computer. Read the manual, it's all there.

Chili...are you serious? I mean what is this thing called a "manual"? I thought I could just buy something, hook it up, and it just work without me having to put forth any effort at all. :confused:

:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Yo Justin! What Chili said. You are trying to use a digital card recorder as a computer audio interface, and...*it doesn't do that*. First, you need to have the backing tracks on the Fostex. Then you need to record the overdub track to the Fostex. Then you convert the whole mess to WAV. files and export them to the computer. Then you can mix in the computer using any audio processing software you want that can recognize WAV. files (which is most of them). And- what these guys are saying about the English language is unfortunately true.
This is not a smart-phone text-based social networking site where you can pick up girls without ever using actual sentences. Most folks here are not going to kill themselves trying to figure out your run-ons or your phonetic abbreviations. First- read the manual. Then read a dictionary. Then read "The Elements of Style" by Strunk and White. It'll teach you how to write in English.-Richie

you mean that thin booklet that shows me how to do everything and answers all my questions is important? that maybe I should read it? God forbid. :rolleyes:

Friend, they weren't smart answers. Yes, you were just asking a question. We, on the other hand, want to, if possible, help. That's why so many give of their free time to answer questions. Many of us are of an age or circumstance where we know that we had no such benefit when we were starting out, no internet, no way of finding answers. But we got through. We could easily say "Well matey boy, you'll work it out one day, don't be so silly". But we haven't. People want to help and can. All we do is ask that you meet us half way by throwing in some punctuation so it is clear what you mean. Then someone with knowledge helps, you get answers, you're happy, we're happy, we record songs and sing heartilly !
Unless we only do instrumentals !!
{Now that was a smart arse answer :p}

Would it kill you to say thanks for the help you have already received instead of brushing off someone's effort to communicate and launching into another exasperated demand ?
