Hi everyone,

Which microphone do you think it can fit best for record acoustic guitar on a price range of $500 - $100?

And maybe what other kind of "racks" do you recommend.

I heard that the pair of NT5s does a good job, but I'm hearing opinions.

Thx

Have a look in the microphone forum, I think there are quite a few threads on mics in that price range....

Maybe a combination of a LDC and a SDC would do the trick!

I use an AKG SDC and an AKG LDC and get better results than matched pairs of NT5s (now sold) and other dual SDC set ups I've tried.

I will say this though.... it depends very much on why you're recording acoustic guitar - as a solo instrument is a different ballgame from as a rhythm instrument in a pop/rock mix type setting..

Ive been using the Rode NT1-A and its great for recording acoustic guitars for the price.

I couldn't agree more.

I have a stereo matched pair of those and they do a great job.

A stereo pair of the NT5 are, in fact, pretty good value for money - especially as yo can get the Omni heads from the NT55 which also fit the NT5 at a later date. And these omnis really are pretty exceptional for the price I hear.

The little Sontronics STC-1 are also a pretty nice stereoset for the price.

it's also horses for courses with guitars too...

I play high end Maton (Australian brand) guitars and the lure of using Rode NT5s (Australian brand) was enough that I bought a pair... but they just didn't work together that well... bit too bright... and possibly I didn't know as much about miking then as now, so I sold them to a friend, on whose mahogany Martin they sound great..

Cheers

My first go to mic for acoustic guitar is a AKGC4000B, which sounds very close to a AKG 414 (which I don't own but have used).

But I also get great results from:

Sennheiser ME40 (on a K3U body)
Rode NT1, NT2 or NT1000

Cheers
Alan.
