If i want to be a producer some day, should i get rid of my current setup an get pro tools?

That would be easy to answer if u would tell us what your current setup is. And as a producer pro tools is not necessary. As a recording/mixing engineer yes it is. Because a lot of ppl in the industry use it. There are still a few that use Nuendo & Logic. Also on that note, a lot of ppl like there tracks split up and in a pro tools session.

not necessary but lets say you're working on a project and would like to bring it to a major studio that only has protools (a lot of major studios). By having protools you can simply just bring your session files either on an external HD or DVD and open it up right away. Compared to having to export each track as audio and if you had already started mixing and have FX set you would have to export them wet or completely dry, and have to try and get that exact same sound all over again. Hope this helps
