I have an old Roland D-70 and want to access VSTi instruments standalone not via DAW.
I have a MIDI Out from my Synth and have Proteus X2 software installed (came with mu EMU MIDI X2 interface), and I can access those "sounds" via that program.
But, there are tons of free synths, piano's etc, especially a Moog-ish mainly for monotone drone background pads (think Rush Xanadu), that I want to dial up, but through a standalone VSTi "interface" and play "live". Just hacking away in the basement, as I am a guitar player, but I am capable of playing keys at a basic level. Since I have no intention of recording or capturing my keyboard playing, that's why I prefer not to fire up a DAW.

Are there any PC Freeware's that can do this ?
Open that program, then open VSTi .. start playing

Thanks.

You just need a free vst host.

I use Toybear's Minihost. Small, works, free. Google it.
Tim, where can you download MiniHost from ? Every search ends up with download lin to a 404
You must have DL it a long time ago, I bet.
