What's your current best mic and preamp/channel strip? Do you have other nice mics but cheap pre's? Got a great pre but mid-grade mics? What's gonna fil the biggest hole in your gear list?

to tell u the truth, i have a fp10, and audix i5 that was given to me, so not much lol:laughings:

I was going to go for "heroin addiction" and "adoration of multiple groupies" but it could be too soon, I feel. :laughings:

You have much to learn..

What style of music are you recording? What instruments... these may affect mic choices.

first im recording accoustic guitar and vocals, nothing major and i shouldnt mess that up to bad :laughings:, dont get me wrong ive been doing research everyday due to my lack of unemployment  just seeing what yall think would be nice to get next for this particular recording

I don't have experience with either of those mics unfortunately.

I'm assuming you're going to be a one-mic studio for a while for financial reasons, so in that case, then a LDC will be better for vocals, possibly not so great for acoustic guitar, but you'll find people that like LDCs on acoustic, certainly I've used them myself.

But the other option being an SDC which may be better for acoustic guitar, but I've never heard of anyone seriously using them as a vocal mic...

Do yourself a favour though, whatever you get, read the Recording Acoustic Guitar 101 sticky thread - not sure if it's in this forum or the recording one, but worth a read. Acoustic guitar is not the easiest thing to record.

Hang in there, people drop in and out of here all the time and I'm sure someone with some direct experience of your potential choices will rock along soon.

Luck!

How is the rest of your gear? What guitar do you have? What is your monitoring setup?

i really appriciate the advise, and my friend, the guy im recording, gave me the audix mic. we used it for the guitar and to tell you the truth didnt sound terrible, but also not great. and its horrible on vocals but i will deff. look at the sticky if i can find it

It's in the next forum down. Recording... at the top of the page. Enjoy...
